I’m guessing they stick with the 4 bangers in the LC, and leave the TTV6 for the GX to differentiate. Look at the grand highlander/TX; TX at least has the option for the top of line V6 hybrid, and the Highlander is capped with 4 banger power. With the GX only having been announced with one engine, I would think they would they would need to keep that exclusive to the GX, at least for now.

My guess remains that the new 4R gets the Taco 4 cylinder and the new LC gets the same GX TTV6. For all intents and purposes, in regards to marketing and maybe customer base, Toyota and Lexus are two different companies.

Is a 4 runner based off the new ‘24 Taco out of the question? It seems they could easily modify the Taco into a SUV. Or is the new Taco still too small? Or better yet, maybe with the LC fitting in the line up, that’s what Toyota is going for?
New Taco has the same track width as the LC300 (it's very slightly wider due likely to wheel offset) in the off-road trims. I'd guess it shares many suspension parts and basic geometry, hard points, etc. And it shares a 9.5" rear axle now. No details yet on front diff size. I think the general size would be pretty close to the GX/LC if they continue with the same 110" wheelbase. I suspect the Tacoma, LC300, and GX/LC250 all share the same rear suspension and axles but for gearing, lockers, etc. And the front is all pretty much a black box at this point. Visually the pre-production versions all have some variations in front suspension, but it's hard to tell what that means in production models.

The non-offroad Tacoma models are narrower a bit and have lighter duty axles. I'm not sure what size. And they also have smaller brakes. IIRC there are 3 or 4 different brake sizes for the Tacoma depending on trim. Some even come on leaf springs still while most are coils in the rear. Lots of options and configurations.

What stayed smaller was the door to door width, so the cabin in still about the same width as the old Taco. The fenders are pretty wide to cover the wide track. I suspect that is pretty similar dimensionally to the LC250 in relationship between overall width and door to door.

Anyway - a Tacoma SUV would probably end up the same width as the LC250 and LC300 if it uses the wider track width components. Possibly narrower if it uses the base model Taco stuff. Or possibly it'll have similar trims with a range of widths?

Many of us believe that the new 4Runner will be based of the new Tacoma including the TRD Pro and Trailhunter features.

I believe there is room for the 4Runner. I forsee the 4Runnner occupying the $40-60K price range and the LC being $60k+

I also believe the 4Runner will be distinguished by the 4cyl and (in the TRD and Trailhunter) a sway bar disconnect while the LC will have the 6 cylinder and E-KDSS.

Listen to Kirk starting at 5:00, I'm pretty sure he's not flying to Japan, and as he mentions, someone already revealed the location.

I’ve watched enough narcissistic videos saying next to nothing for a lifetime. Will it be in Utah or Japan or you don’t know?

The 4Runner will be smaller and have the same Tacoma engine options and priced lower.

Roasting a Goose that lays Golden Eggs: Lightly cover with olive oil, Alba truffles under the skin, roast at 400 degrees for approximately half hour, reduce to 300 and continue for another two hours. Remove from the oven, cover, deglaze the drippings with white wine and reduce. Serve with a slightly cooled Chenas on a silver platter to your guests from Ford and Jeep.

Unlikely.

How is it getting roasted? The 4 cylinder that is more powerful than its current engine? Losing KDSS that was in less than 20% (?) of its sold models?

I've already explained when and where my Plano source said it would be, Utah. So far my source had the date right, we will see if the location is right on Aug 1st.

The museum will be closed for a special event so it’s an easy guess, although I wonder what they are doing Sat - Mon. The only reason for the question was the previous information about it being from Japan. Maybe the actual reveal announcement will come from Japan and there will be event showing it in Utah. That way everyone can be sort of partially right.

FWIW - that was not Toyota USA marketing. That's the Toyota Japan website. Not sure if that matters much, but it's the global marketing unless they have another launch and reveal for the Prado that is different.

I'm not sure what you're seeing underneath. I haven't seen a GX550 up close. What is it that you are seeing that's different? Other than the mufflers, I'm not sure I could tell which is which by looking underneath.

Sorry, that was confusing. I intended that comment to be specifically about the outgoing J150/J200 in reference to the light-duty series vs wagons but it definitely doesn’t read that way. I’ve seen both LX600 and GX550 in person but have not had an opportunity to look under either in person.

Man the mental masturb@t!on has really taken off in the last few pages

Very entertaining - I love and hate the internet.

Full pics in Motortrend this month of the blue version, article said retail between 55k and 65k. Just came in the mail yesterday. Funny because I never subscribed.

Adding good features and improvements like a new engine to a cash cow or goose laying golden eggs is fine, but changing its size and reducing its price? Not a good idea unless you are a charity serving your competitors. It seems to me this is a Peter Schutz at Porsche moment. Schutz is selling the 928, but the Porsche family defended their golden goose 911. Toyota’s best play here is to follow suit with the 911. Keep the 4Runner best in class looks body while improving everything else. They will milk that cult figure truck for another few decades, just like Porsche did the 911. That’s my take after driving this lovely beast. Cheers

I don't know about size but by lower price I think they meant lower than the Land Cruiser, so probably less than $55k-75k. So slight overlap with base LC and TRD-Pro 4Runner. I don't think that is unreasonable.
