This is coming right up and I'm getting properly stoked!

I imagine we'll meet up at the Town Pump in Boulder. We probably need an official meetup time. It looks like it's 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes from Bozeman, depending on if you're driving a 40 that can handle interstate speeds.

It appears that the road turns dirt where Muskrat Lane becomes McCarthy Creek Road (46.228790750307006, -112.07914287004546). That's probably as good a place as any to air down and a good secondary meet up location for anyone running late.

If I recall from the last 40's Only Run, everyone was running ham radio. I'll bring my handhelds in case anyone is lacking a radio. 146.460 simplex has been the frequency we've used in the past.

I'll leave it to @90WT to post something semi-official. I'll have an open seat in my rig if @ttFJC is still interested in coming out to make photos.

Bummer! You had some awesome photos from the last club event.

OK folks. Let's do this!

Saturday meetup spot is Town Pump in Boulder at 10am (that's 0-10 hundred if I got that right). Can't really miss it. But if you need coordinates: 46.24407, -112.11690
Let's all try to meetup at the Town Pump. Get gas, have coffee, wait for other 40s to meander into town. I'm not expecting a parade of 40's but let's face it, some of us may need a little time to get to town, and quart of oil and cuppa Joe (and probably a number 2) when we make it. We can all air down there. Only a few hundred feet of pavement and it's all dirt from there on.

@pigmony is correct. Trail starts a little East of town here: 46.22881, -112.06931
So if you're running really late, or like to get a head start, you can catch the wagon train there around 10:15 or so.

Here's the important part. Bring a radio. Ham 146.460. GMRS/FRS channel 7. Can't find us? Running late? Need a new voltage regulator (@bagochips76), then radio up. We'll be on the horn. @pigmony and I are Ham snobs (same with @elkun1) so that's probably the best. For those of you who have my cell number, we'll have reception in Boulder. For those of you who need my cell number, send me a PM.

Other stuff.
1. If you're coming, let us know and post up so we can expect you (and wait for you). 40's Only Run is about hangin' out together, no man left behind. If you have troubles, no worries, you're among friends. And if your Autobahn limit is 45, no worries. Take your time, have fun getting to town.
2. If you're camping. Post up. Not required but could be fun. I will be camping either solo or with at least one passenger Friday night, maybe Saturday. Let's not complicate the run with a long list of camping spots. But post up if you're camping and join others. (I'll be South of Boulder, will add to next post). Maybe you can even crash in @3_puppies back yard amongst the 45's and absorb some history.
3. If you're on the fence, please join. This is one of the funnest things you can do with your 40. Nothing can compare to wheelin' your 40, with other 40's. It's rad!
4. Read the previous posts about McCarty Creek. @JohnnyOshow22 says it's fun and doable stock, with a few fun sections for the more advanced. There will be stockers, and not stockers on our trip. (Did I mention my 62.5 rear horsepower dyno-pull?)
5. Standard trail equipment is expected. Fire extinguisher, working e-brake (if you're lucky), radio, spare, etc. Read this as a disclaimer to bring a rig that is trail ready. But also realize there will be air compressors and other misc gear abound, so if you don't have everything OK4WD has in their catalog, don't sweat it. I always forget something.
6. End of the trail is up in the Elkhorns. I will round out the day with a trip to Elkhorn Ghost Town. I'm sure others will too, but the end of the day and the route home is gonna happen organically (no plans made).
7. Kid friendly, dog friendly. We're all friendly.

I'll add the above info to the first post and a loose headcount. See you Saturday!

Just a couple things to add:
1) It's currently looking like 20-30% chance of rain. I doubt anyone will melt, but I'd still bring your rain gear.
2) Last time we did this, I underestimated how long we would be out. These old trucks will go just about anywhere, but they wont go there fast. Make sure you pack some snacks, and some lunch, and maybe some more snacks.
3) It's a pretty special thing to see these old trucks together and out getting used. Take a lot of pictures and share them! Hopefully someone will get a cool shot of your rig and share it, and maybe you'll get a cool shot of their rig that you share.
4) Don't forget to download offline maps for whatever nav system you use.

I'll be there, as of now I'm more than likely planning to drop my tow rig and trailer at the Town Pump if they'll let me. Then roll out to camp around Boulder, with @90WT Friday night.

If there is a camping spot big enough to leave my stuff there I might just do that. That is to be determined.

I'm kind of bare bones on recovery gear, I do have an extinguisher, but no real recovery gear. My 40 spends more time running around forest service roads chasing fish than real off road territory. That being said, I have a solid but rig that is dependable, it's basically my daily driver.

Anyone else camping?

Looking at how to get to Boulder from Bozeman area, it looks like I can either take MT-69 north from Cardwell or Whitetail Rd north from Whitehall. I've driven MT-69 a couple times, and I'd rather take a road I've not driven before. It looks like Whitetail Rd is a bit slower, which is fine. Has anyone been that way before? Is it a nice drive?

White tail road from Whitehall to Boulder is a fun little drive. Some pretty decent veiws. Tons of camping spots along the way. Might be kinda bumpy wash boards. You can drive a Prius on it. They redid a bunch of it couple of years ago. It was fun when they were still working on it. I’d say it’s worth it if you aren’t in a hurry

or you can take lone mountain road from the toston side and go over the top, you can end up on the elkhorn road then hit 69. wide open country with good views plus a really neat old mine to check out. beware the shaft is open. no camping spots though and mostly private property

I was actually planning to take that way home.

I didn't even get out of Hamilton before I had the first problem.

No tow rig, I'm in the 40!

Awesome day for a relic run. We had 5 rigs out to play. McCarty Creek did not disappoint.

I made it back just before 9!

Right after I secured the crossbars somewhere safe.

Thanks Matt for getting this put together, this was one of most enjoyable and fun rides i've been on. It had the right combination of pucker factor (ask Seth about tilt and a 40), breakdowns (old carbureaters can be finicky), challenges as there has been a lot of water erosion since last year and just a great group of guys. Weather conditions were about perfect and this one really raised the bar for next years trip

I ran into Stephen at Costco tonight. He missed out on the planning thread altogether, so we'll have to keep that in mind next time to make sure we're getting the word out to everyone.
