Ok, so now I have to decide to replace all 4 or just the 2 that are worn. The back 2 Dunlop’s we’re just replaced a year or so ago and have plenty of tread left. I’d rather not replace 2 good tires if not needed. Is there any reason that I may not know about of why I would need to replace all 4 with the same manufacturer of tire. I would have 2 Michelin’s and 2 Dunlop’s on the vehicle. More than likely I would replace the other 2 Dunlop’s summer of 2025.
No. Replacing 2 now means they’ll be worn down when you get the next 2 on which then means you always have an uneven amount of wear across the full set. I’d replace all 5 and rotate regularly to maximize life and performance.

i would def not mix tire types, like two dunlops and two michelin! AWD cars do not like the wheels turning differently all the time! It wears out all the driveline parts.

I MIGHT be tempted to have four Dunlops if the two rear ones were just replaced.....expecially if i did not have the monetary choice available....

The Dunlop’s are just inferior tires all around. IMO this is a chance for a reset to a tire that is worthy of this vehicle.. the Michelins.

I also like the idea of tossing one of the Dunlop’s onto the spare if it’s not new. Or run five new Michelins and do the 5-tire rotation.. this has the advantage of if you get a flat that requires replacement you can switch to 4-tire on even tread for the remainder of those tires’ life, then put the newer tire back into the rotation when you wear out the four.

I planned to post this in the Defender thread but the light helped me notice my 6k-mile LTXs still had some of the mold marks..

They wear like iron.

Resurrecting this thread. Is there any way that the suspension could cause scalloping? The wear is on the outside edge of the tire. Every other lug is lower than the one before it. But overall, the tread in this area is 1/4 less than the rest of the tires. I've got new globes and completely flushed and replaced the fluid 11 months ago. I thought I did a good job of bleeding the air out (I bled all four corners and refilled the reservoir like 4 times with suspension actuation and taking it for a quick drive on the last two bleeds).

My front passenger tire developed severe scalloping over time. I didn't notice it until it got really loud. I don't drive the LX much so I hadn't rotated the tires since I installed them 12 months ago. It's only had around 6 or 7 thousand miles put on it in that time, no tire rotation. But for only that one tire to get that bad? The rest look new still. These are kenda klever 35x10.50s. I've had 3 sets of these going back to my GX. Never experienced this issue. The tire place told me that this sort of scalloping on one tire usually happens because the suspension isn't keeping the tire flat on the ground (hopping up and down).

When they took the tire/wheels off, they checked it and said it was only unbalanced by a few OZ, whichbthey chucked up to the fact that it had lost rubber so unevenly. Not enough to cause this sort of wear. Is it possible there's air on that side AHC still, enough to cause this? I didn't have any crazy vibration that I'd think you'd feel in the car or even the wheel if that was the case. I run these tires at 35 psi. I ran them at 40 on my GX.
