Congrats on the '16!

I posted previously about DIY deleting the factory rack and included the p/n to do so. There are captured nuts in the roof where it gets mounted. I doubt they would omit them if you opted not to get the rack. I have not yet DIY deleted the running boards but intend to one day (I just need to convince my better half that Slee's sliders are a better way to climb in than the existing running boards). If ever I need to sell or trade the LC in, I'll include them. I surmise most people outside of this forum want those items included with their LC.

Not sure which port and/or dealer(s) like to install the fender flares (the vast majority don't) but I'd prefer to make that decision myself. If you don't want them or do want them be sure to verify that with your dealer so you're not surprised...

My '14 came with two sets of wireless headphones. I purchased a case on Amazon for like $14 and they've sat in their since. If you need more than two, order them.

I have had my LC for 12k miles and the OEM carpet floor mat is notably wearing from my heal at the accelerator. I'm not pleased with it. I have WeatherTech mats in my 4Runner and have run them in other vehicles. They are definitely worth the money. They protect the floors well, contain spills/snow/ice, and are easy to clean. I've looked at the Toyota all weather mats online and they don't appear to come close to the WeatherTechs. The only "downside" to the WeatherTechs is that they can look kind of "industrial" in what is otherwise a moderately classy interior (e.g. I'm a function over form guy most of the time so it doesn't bother me; my bride on the other hand...).

I like the Toyota cargo net as well.

As was said above, the OEM remote start has been discussed ad infinitum here. It could be more user friendly, but can be tolerated. On really hot or cold days it can be useful. If your buying a "forever" rig and don't want to mess with things, I'd go with the OEM port installed. If you don't mind messing with the virginal vehicle then I'm sure you can find a less annoying aftermarket start.

I'm not sure how helpful the key locator accessory is, but I don't have one and never once wished I had one on any key I've ever possessed...

Since you seem to be going all in. Might you consider having TRD Rock Warrior wheels added to your list?

Accessories choices are fine, but don't fool yourself into thinking a new Land Cruiser ( or any new car made today) is a "forever vehicle".

Plan on selling it before it hits it's 12th birthday max... or plan on buying a parts vehicle in about 8 years from now.

The era of "forever" vehicles is over... forever.
If I'm not mistaken the LC is designed with a 25 year service life. Doesn't mean you won't have to do anything to it ever, but compared to every other known vehicle in the US market I'd like to think it will take a lickin' and keep on tickin' for more than a decade...

One thing that must be done within three (3) hours of purchase:

Post pics!

;)

Thank you, T4Runner; comment about key locator is funny. Looking into TRD rock warrior wheels now, which weren't on my radar before, so thanks again. I will look into them. Wife has had already had enough say in this deal, so absence of running boards is non-negotiable at this point. If it doesn't appeal to the masses, then so be it. In the spirit of function over form, going with after market rubber mats, and tak I ng the rest of your advice to heart. Looking forward to seeing my headphones collect dust!

Congrats on the decision. I've only seen one 16 around town so far. The nice thing about the 13+ models is there are very few factory options, they all come with everything.

Skip the mats for Weathertech liners. Skip the TRD stuff, no need. Skip the remote start, it's annoying to have it cut off when you open the door.

Good luck.

Thank you, RTaylor; appreciate your simplicity. Will definitely go with Weathertech mats. Now imagining a factory 200-series without running boards, bumper guards, and roof rack. Looks good in my mind. Might just tell the dealer not to install anything at the port other than the wheels and glass break sensor.

Dear Lord, T4Runner; those TRD wheels are beautiful! Definitely going to ask for a set of those. If not too much trouble, please elaborate on your comment about the captured nuts. Does it mean that even if rack gets omitted, roof will still have drilled holes and not be smooth? Imagining a rack-less, running board-less 2016 on TRD Rock Warriors now ... very exciting.

You should be able to google GST or SET and see how they work. Toyota breaks the US down in 12 distributorships. Only 2 (SET and GST are privately owned).

So when you fall under these distributorship market, you are forced to pay marketing BS and dealer installed BS that rest of the US isn't saddled with.

You can see the ugly Gulf State Land Cruisers with horrible fender flares etc.

Due to the LC/LX coming fully loaded, you aren't as horribly effected. However, if you look at a Toyota Tacoma for example, SET/GST will only allow you to build certain examples and you have to take many packages to get a certain thing (ex getting a $2000 tonneu cover on a Tacoma). They do serious high "port options" (Houston and Jacksonville)

I have lots of family in Houston/Atlanta and last 20 years they have been buying Toyotas outside the reach of GST/SET

Good luck

Buy it with the roof rack/running board. Take them off when you get home.

Thanks again, ryanCA; at this point, I definitely fall under SET jusisdction, which apparently is not ideal. Unopposed to venturing to another region like DC or Seattle to make the deal. Are you comfortable making referral? Main argument that my local customization/restoration shop made about omitting the port-installed roof rack and running boards was: if one is going to eventually remove them anyway, best not to drill extra holes in the first place. Hard to argue with that logic. UNLESS the roof holes come factory-drilled, in which case, might as well get the roof rack just to plug the holes. Would love to know the exact state of the vehicles upon arrival at port, and everything that occurs there before arrival at the dealerships.

Glad you like 'em.

I prefer the look of a slick top Land Cruiser too. I'd also prefer an LC without the rear spoiler, but that's a different conversation... As I recall, the OEM roof rack is mounted in six points (three per side) along the drip rail. There are captured nuts that the bolts securing the feet of the rack go into. Toyota makes brackets that secure covers in those locations (which is what I sourced when I removed my rack). The brackets/bolts seal the holes (I used a little RTV as well because that's the kind of guy I am) and the covers snap on to the brackets and bridge the rubber strips that run along the drip rails. In the U.S. the rack is standard. In other parts of the world it's optional. I presume, but I don't know for certain, that Toyota uses the aforementioned brackets and covers when they don't install the rack in those markets. I think Toyota does the same on their other SUVs as well. Nothing to worry about -- I park mine outside and never had any leaking issues (and have had no rack since I purchased it). Aesthetically it's a non issue as you really cannot see the drip rail at all unless you climb up there specifically to look at it anyway...

Thank you T4Runner; I lIke how your think. Have until Saturday to decide, but feel better about the build now:

OMITTED FEATURES:
Running boards
Fender flares
Rear spoiler
Roof rack

ELECTRONIC ACCESSORIES:
Glass Breakage Sensor
Remote Engine Starter
Wireless Headphones

OTHER:
TOYOGUARD (whatever is the best package)

Also rhllc: love the blue. Almost went with the darker shade. What interior do you have, if you don't mind? Idea that people were calling on it in only 12 hours is unsettling. I am going to work with my dealer to keep mine off of the website if possible.

I have the Terra interior. It is nice, I think the Terra interior works better in person than in Toyota's photos. In photos the metallic (like) surfaces seem to stand out more than when one is actually in the car. I'd guess due to the lighting they used to take the pictures. Going with the Terra interior seemed like a pretty big risk when I ordered, I thought it might be too busy, but I'm glad I did.

I don't understand why everyone is nit picking about port installed options, roof racks and running boards. It will be MUCH harder adding them later if he wants them but he can easily remove them if he wants. I would want all the accessories I can at initial purchase so they are covered by the 3/36K bumper to bumper warranty.

Thank you; and good call. I wouldn't be surprised if the floor mats offered are virtually identical to Weathertechs.
I've never seen a floor mat from a car manufacturer that was nearly as good as a Weathertech floor liner.

He asked for opinions about which accessories to get, so we are offering our opinions. That isn't nit-picking. That is answering the OP's questions. He is free to take our advice or ignore it.

I have made a deal on 16 LC before it got to the port (still on the ship) so at the port no options were added and LC was left with factory installed options. So there is a way to go around it if coming from Japan.
