...So my question is when installing the CDL switch, you have to pull out the Blank Space Holder on the dash to reach the screws. Is their anyway of not breaking the blank space holder?

Sometimes you have to experience the wrong way to fix something. Then you will remember to search as several have already mentioned.:bang:

The 80 series has been around for a while, even before you were born. There will be a post.

You are getting off easy on the above link provided. Next time someone will just post "search".

I thought 15 year olds these days were all high tech. Why are you asking on a forum?? Write some code or something and pull the data into a database or something. Maybe tweet or Instagram. Anything but asking a bunch of middle aged guys on a forum. Even I can Google stuff. #feelinglikeyouarentreally15

Some tips for a newbie with a cruiser, if your going to wheel it don't use the lockers for a while-even in difficult situations, learn to wheel without them first. You break less stuff that way and learn to wheel better and be a better driver over all-doing this has actually perhaps saved my life. Don't try to impress girls with fancy driving, it took me years to fix all the damage from that tree. Get some rock sliders at some point if you are going to wheel it at all, maybe you can score some used ones to save money. Do research on how stuff actually works, how a 4 stroke engine works, how a differential works, how seals work, what does oil do, how cooling systems work, how electricity works, basics of fuel injection, how brakes work, how fasteners and bolts work and how to properly use bolts and fasteners. As you learn, then acquire tools. Don't get fancy tools, just tools that will work, no need to get snap-on for most stuff, craftsman, or even harbor freight will usually do fine for a shade tree mechanic. You will also need to learn some basic and safe recovery techniques if you decide to wheel it.

Thanks guys! My dad is a HUGE money waster. He bought a sparkplug socket and he didnt know he bought one. Thanks for the advice guys!!!!!

Really easy. Got a hitch backup camera. Pulled the wires up along the tail gate through the stoplight (you will need to make the connections there in order to make the screen light up and the camera to work when shifting the tranny in reverse), cut a slit in the wire cover going inside the trunk, routed the wires through the door sills across the DS, up the dashboard into that location. Pull a positive wire from the battery and made the connection with the display.

Now the trick is to drill some holes in that useless cubby and not break it. It's old brittle plastic. One little mistake and it will shatter.
Start with a small bit and work your way up to the diameter of the screws. Don't force anything. Make sure you only need to drill once, measure 5 times prior.
free tip. make a paper template first to see where the holes would need to be placed.
Get the paper template lined up with the plastic cubby and mark on the plastic where the holes should be.
what is a ds?

So little help on success here.

Read the FAQ. Read it again. Learn your truck. Learn how to search here. Repeat and rinse. Then don't be afraid to add a post to an already started thread with your question or comment. If ALL that fails and really can't find your answer start a new thread. Doesn't need to be 200page book. State your title clear and follow with your issue and if relevant the history of what you have tried or possible know to assist to diag.

Problem solving and advise on the internet is difficult somtimes. If there is a local club or group I strongly advise you and your Dad join a meeting or get together. Bring the truck.

Ok! My dad has work everyday besides sunday. we have a huge family. A family of 7 we have a land cruiser and a tacoma. Btw do u know if the tacoma can do the cdl switch mod too?

Tacomas are primarily RWD (Rear Wheel Drive), when engaging 4WD/4x4 (4 Wheel Drive) mode the front (axle) becomes locked with the rear (axle), as if the CDL (Center Differential Lock) is turned on when in 4Lo (i believe in 4Hi it stays open).
4WD cars need the button you refer to, because all 4 wheels are always spinning. Sometimes you find the need to lock them together, most of the time they should be unlocked (just so you can turn without damaging the transmission or any drivetrain components).

Wikipedia explains everything really nice. AWD, 4WD, 4x4.

You can not "unlock" the center diff in the tacoma or tundra to my knowledge. Its a transfer case 50/50 split all the time not a true differential.

@Andrew Ling where are you from? Were you born in the USA?

ERm i live in Alameda, California..
ERM is probably and error because he's using his cell phone and voice command. as a full time teacher of 15 year olds(freshman) I see that stuff on almost every paper they turn in. None of our youth today can type worth a damn. They talk into their phones and then send that to their emails and cut and paste it into Word. its funny as hell reading their papers. they almost never proof read or spell check anything they turn in.whatever their phone thinks they said is what shows up in the paper.
