Here's to fixing leaks! Replaced disintegrated water pump gasket only to discover the WP also leaks from the weep hole. New WP is en route.

Finally got my cruiser to run again, i think.

Let me start by saying that this was definitely Chris and Eric's fault. :) They probably do not remember because it began a long time ago.

For the last three years I have been having fuel delivery problems. The 40 would starve out anytime fuel demand got to large. It would always recover and once back at camp nothing wrong could be found.

What a comedy of errors. Of course I caused all of it about 10 years ago by getting the bright idea to route my exhaust above my skid plate and inside my frame rail. This took the exhaust close to my gas tank (3/4") and I remember at the time that I would just see if it caused a problem. It did not. Several years later Eric, Chris and I were following Red Foxx through Pritchett Canyon in Moab. At one obstacle I heard some gurgling and took off my gas cap and let out a ton of hot fuel vapors. I was concerned and those guys (as all good friends do) told me to not worry about it the truck was running fine and it was hotter than blazes that day. They were right and all finished well.

The next time I was in Moab with Chris we went on the Golden Crack trail but Chris went bike riding instead, I let my Dad spot me, I did not listen to him and I rolled over. It was then that the problems began. In hindsight the vent system was completely plugged, the exhaust was boiling the gas but the pressure was pushing fuel to the fuel pump. The roll over in Moab with Dad freed the plugged vent a little. I chased everything I could before finally figuring out the cause, hot gas.
So I temporarily put a spare tank in the cruiser for the next Moab but I could not get the mechanical pump to work so I put in an electric one. The truck ran great and when I got home I wrapped the exhaust and put heat shielding insulation on the gas tank. Now after getting it all back together it still would not start. That led to me trying to prime the carb with fuel and starting myself on fire. I wish I could have seen it; my brother yelling "stop drop and roll" over and over until the fire went out. (had to be as funny as Chris' brother Troy starting himself on fire at Moab)
I worked on it yesterday and now it runs. Turn out I still had two problems. The truck would not get gas to the carb. So I put in the electric pump and it still would not run. I finally put air to the carb and I heard the needle seat unstick and then air went through the bowl. So I hooked up the fuel system and it still would not run with the mechanical pump but would with the electric. Then it dawned on me that I might have the mechanical fuel pump plumbed wrong. I swapped the return and inlet lines and viola it ran. And it continued to run as I drove it around and put gas in it. It was a cold cold day so I am not sure I have the vapor/hot fuel issue fixed, but I will remain optimistic.

Long post, but it has been a long journey. Pics to follow.

If I had a dollar for every time i've heard that!

Speaking of Erik's fault. Got the sound deadening out of foo, in anticipation of spray on liner throughout.

Wheeled it outside overnight last week in the minus 12 windchill and it came out in sheets. Absolutely the best way to do that.

Decided to put this in the 2013 file as I just found the pics.

Put off changing the manifold on my tow rig, 99 Dodge Diesel.

I almost had a two part manifold.

Turbo is spooling up a little faster now. :grinpimp:
