This has me wondering if they changed something about how or where they are produced.

What am I missing here? Wouldn't they be on as DRLs every day (that you drive that truck)? Why have I had such bad luck with mine?

My DRLs were disabled before I left the dealer lot I purchased my rig from.

I turned my DRL's off a long time ago, and my 9011's are still going strong. Can't say that cause and effect, or just a coincidence; but it wouldn't hurt bulb life to turn off the DRL's.

As a note, I run with my parking lights on all the time. Better for visibility than DRL's because the taillights are also lit when the parking lights are on (whereas they are off when just the DRL's are on) - better visibility for those following.

Has anyone had 9011s burn out without DRL use?

Trying to replace my low beams with HID. Previous owner put in some bad LEDs. I worked for 3 hrs today and am still stuck. I can’t get the wire/metal clamp to fit around the HIS bulb and lock it into place. I ordered the Toshiba OEM bulb like others have linked in this thread. I’m starting to wonder if maybe this isn’t the OEM clip or something is wrong with the bulb. Maybe it isn’t seating into the socket properly, therefore there isn’t enough space for the clip to slide into the grooves?

Pics below. First is how I think the clips are supposed to lock in. Second is clean with nothing in. Third and fourth show where the clips don’t get all the way in place to be secure.

Appreciate any help.

I haven’t taken mine apart to compare, but from the first two pics it almost looks like there is some kind of adapter inserted where the bulb should go.. maybe see if that pulls out and allows the bulb to seat correctly?

Thanks, that’s a great thought. I’ll check to see if it’ll come out tomorrow. If anyone has taken their’s apart and knows or maybe has a picture, please LMK!

You need to remove that led adapter thats in place of where HID bulb is supposed to go. Here's what it should look like before hid bulbs is inserted.

So just yesterday I noticed my driver's side headlight assembly (2015 lc200) looked totally foggy out of nowhere. I replaced the HID bulb with a Toshiba D4S Xenon HID 4300K 35W about a month ago and haven't had any issues. When I went under the hood to take a look and unscrewed the housing, I smelled an off gassing or chemical smell. I immediately went and unseated the bulb which had either melted or something and was caught and difficult to get out. I finally got it out but it broke into pieces along the way. Turns out it had melted into the housing.

I thought leaving the gasket open overnight might clear out the fogginess but unfortunately it did not. I had the old OEM bul lb and reinstalled that for now. Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a whole new housing minus some other solution.

I'm not sure what happened here and can only think the bulb itself may have failed and permanently stained the interior of the assembly with whatever gas or smoke or whatever. The gasket was very well seated as far as I could tell. Very strange and frustrating.

I'm in need of the screw that holds the retaining clip. I have not been able to identify it from any of the resources I've found. Does anyone know what part number this is? See photo:

You'll have to wing that one. Projector components are not sold individually by dealers

Check eBay. I idiotically loosened that screw and the retaining clip fell off and into the headlight housing, never to be seen again. Was able to get the clip from eBay, so maybe you can find screw there also.
