Just to add, I have room for parking in addition to the accommodation of a few spots.
let's keep track of who chimes in, in order of signing up and I'll squeeze in as many as I can. Although it looks like the 10 vehicle max has been reached, I don't think the 40 person max has. Pitch a tent at the group camp and park at my cabin.

Hope to make it on Saturday for a day trip.

Yesterday I snuck away to our cabin with my wife as it was our 22nd anniversary. Late in the afternoon we decided to walk over to the Lupine group campground. It only took 10 minutes to walk over there. The camp spot has a little spur loop to the parking area. All the spots were full as well as the whole spur loop with cars parked end to end. I'd say the were at least 20 vehicles there and I didn't even count all the people. No fire truck getting to that campsite. It didn't appear to me that there was any enforcement of the 10 vehicle max going on.

Since the group campsite is for tent camping, I'd like to reiterate the option of overflow parking at my cabin. Just drop your tent and stuff off at the group site and come park at my place, only 10 minutes away on a nice trail.

Thanks for checking out the site. I hope/assume there will be room for a few trailers?

Don't know if we want to start another thread for this but the M&G would be a good time to have a little swap meet.

I have 2 sets of Thule load bars 48" & 60" with the feet I need to get rid of $50.

Was thinking the same thing...
Maybe you can start a new thread to keep things clean? I have a couple of things I need to get rid of!

Thank you for the intel Derrick!

Hey you guys. I've been watching this since the pole was posted. I have a 3+ year old and a 2 month year old. And camping may not be the idea situation for these critters. I'm not sure if the princess will allow for camping. I may convince her to a night or two in Julian. If all else fails I may cruise down for the day to meet up and introduce myself to SoCal80s. I also have a few items I wouldn't mind getting rid of.

Good deal. Hope to see you there!

From the news reports, they are evacuating Ranchita which is north of Scissors Crossing (78 & S2). If the fire started near Mason Valley TT, this means that it has covered most of the higher elevation trails in the area, such as Chariot/Oriflamme/Rodriguez canyons and Grapevine canyon. :frown:

I'm looking forward to this trip this weekend. Not to sound too dumb, but what would be the best way to get there from North Orange County? I'm not very failure with that area.
My son and daughter are very excited about coming. My son starts back to school on the following Monday, so this is our last trip for the summer.

These are the directions from the Reserve America site. Not sure of the quickest route from OC but since I am just south of I-8 this is the route I am taking.

Getting There:

GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):
32.8875, -116.44083
32°53'15"N, 116°26'27"W

The campground is located 50 miles east of San Diego, California. Take I-8 to Sunrise Highway exit. Go approximately 14 miles to Horse Heaven Group Campground.

Possibly take 78E from Oceanside to Escondido then continue through Ramona and into Julian. From Julian you can take the 79 south for a couple miles then turn left (east) on Sunrise Highway (S1). Nice scenic drive through the mountains with lots of places along the way for potty breaks. Make sure you stop at Dudley's Bakery in Santa Ysabel and Julian as well.

IDK, going all the way to I8 seems like the long way to me. According to google maps, taking the 78 is less mileage but takes a little longer, while the 8 is more miles but is quicker. Up to you :meh:

Taking Friday off. When do people plan on arriving? Anyone else from OC up for a caravan to the campsite?

Per Google Maps from my South OC location it's 2hours, 12 minutes and 123 miles taking the I-8 route and 2 hours, 56 minutes and 137 miles going over Ortega Highway and thru Julian to Sunset Highway. Certainly a more fun, challenging and beautiful drive thru Julian and down into AB, but certainly much longer time and mileage.

Guess it'll depend on when I get out of here on Friday whether I head south on I-5 to I-8 with SD traffic.

Stay away from the 8 east Friday afternoon and 78 east from the 5 is bad as well. If you OC guys decide to do Ortega Hwy and come down the 15, you should exit at 76 and head east. This will take you up to the 79. Hang a right (south) and T into the 78. Hang a left and you'll go into Julian. From Julian, continue onto the 79 to S1, hang left and go until you hit the campground. This will be the least mileage, the least traffic, and the most scenic.

76 from I-15 to 79 ~35miles
79 to 78 ~7miles
78 to Julian ~6 miles
79 south from Julian to S1(Sunrise Hwy) ~5miles
S1 to Horse Haven Campground ~13miles

Looking forward to this guys!
