Jeff, I'll bring a couple of survival beverages that may interest you. :D:beer:

Disregard my last. I will not be at Katemcy and neither will those survival beverages I promised. Last week I rolled the 40 at 50 mph, and the result was not good. Am stranded at my parents house in Oklahoma, and trying to persuade USAA not to total the old beast. Hope to see you boys in Mississippi next month, provided the truck and I are back in working order.

Carry on gents,
Lee

No pics, Sir. The truck, or its carcass, was taken to Cruiser Corps in Oklahoma City, where it presently sits, in pieces. I went to the ER, then to my parents house. Taking pics wasn't at the top of my list. Here's a partial cut and paste lifted from the USAA accident report.

"At 1430 on Wednesday, 2 March 2011...a late model Honda minivan veered in front of my vehicle on the entrance ramp to IH35 South at its intersection with IH240. I was traveling at approximately 50 mph and would guess the speed of the minivan to be at least the same, based on its closing rate. I steered right onto a banked shoulder in order to avoid a high speed collision, rolling my truck over and coming to rest on the driver's side. The minivan driver accelerated and left the scene at high speed immediately after observing me leave the ramp. There were witnesses, including two who stopped and gave statements, but no one was able to record the van's license number. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called and issued no citations as there was no infraction on my part.

....prior to altering course, the minivan was eastbound on IH240 and came from my left, placing it's right side directly in front of me. The driver abruptly cut across the triangular area separating her lane from the single lane entrance ramp. She was talking on a cell phone and I assume had missed her exit and was attempting a last minute correction. Had I not swerved, my truck would have made a direct hit on the van's sliding side door at approximately 50 mph. My first thought was that there could be kids sitting on the other side of that door, and they would not survive a collision. I believe collision avoidance was probably the best alternative, given the possibility of the vans passengers being harmed."

That's the short version. I'm not fully functional yet, not that I was to begin with. Concussion and some kinda thing goin' on with my back, so I'm not seeing or moving too well. USAA says that according to their "book," the 40 isn't worth repairing. They want to total it. I don't. Mike Denison, the owner of Cruiser Corps, says they can put it back together for me. The insurance folks and I will have a spirited discussion about this next week.

Oh, and I need a beer.

Lee

BTW, here's the truck they want to send to the junkyard, at Katemcy last year...

Glad you are ok. I can tell you are ok because it took you so long to say "somebody ran me off the road and I rolled my truck."

I want to hang with you in MS. Call me.

Ha. As if I've ever been OK.

Nolen demanded the boring details, so you got 'em too.

I'll be coming directly to Jackson first, and I will call ahead.

Heck, my 40 with 3.73's can do 75 without breakin' a sweat. Or could until Wednesday.

Not sure how good my typing is but I'm workin on it. Today is the first time since Wed that I've been able to focus and not see double.

This is me breaking the windshield and DS window with my head.:bang:

Pretty sure my head won. :hillbilly:

glad you are ok. drink some beer.

Excellent idea Sir! I'm havin' one now. ;)

Got a ballpark estimate of repair cost this afternoon. Depending on what pieces they can save and reuse--Low of $6.5K and high of $8.5K.

Final repair tab should be ready by tomorrow. I may need more than one beer.

what is the insurance company wanting to total it for/ give you for it?

I won't know that figure until the end of this week.

The damage appraiser who actually looked at the truck, said it should not be totaled. It's a bean counter in San Antonio who wants to junk it. We're still discussing what to do.

If I lose the argument, I'll buy it as salvage and fix it myself.

Did you have stated value insurance? If not, it probably books out at $2500 and that is how much "value" you have been paying for.

I have actual cash value coverage. USAA doesn't offer agreed or stated value policies. They're telling me the book says ~$3500-$4K for an excellent condition truck with 65K miles. The dispute at this point is over how they define actual cash value for my claim.

A local classic car appraiser looked at the 40 yesterday and said that if repaired, it's worth $26K. USAA's own damage appraiser said she wouldn't even consider totaling the truck. There were slightly more than 200 FJ40's imported to the US in 1982, and only a dozen or so with the "L" package, so it's a rare bird.

I'm wishin' GT had gone ahead with lawyerin', 'cause I may need an aggressive ambulance chaser before this is over.
