2010 fj45 run!!!!!

Got home at 10PM last night, now up at 4:30 to go to work 
Rob still had another hour to go to get home. Will post up pics when I get home from work............tomorrow.
My first year being up there, made a lot of new friends, put faces to names and caught up with old friends. The family and I had a great time and looking forward to next year!!!!

always do ! We got a chance to go check out some of the other trails this year and give the younger Cruiser folks a chance to drive the rigs. Ken your son Sawyer is a natural ( Your Daughter did a Great Job also ) and Tony your boys can run my stuff anytime. We turned a few heads this year with the LV

This was a great run. I have been an off-and-on (generally on, but I forget to renew) member of TLCA since 1977. This run reminded me of the TLCA Thanksgiving runs in the 1970’s and 1980’s because everyone was bonded by a similar vehicle. It was great to meet new people and see different vehicles (although in the early Thanksgiving Runs FJ45’s were not quite so rare). My wife really enjoyed the weekend so that’s a great thing.
Georg and everyone who helped him did a great job. My thanks to them.
The Deer Valley Trail was my first off-road experience with my then new 1976 FJ40. I (stupidly) did the trail on my own and got hung up before even getting to Clover Valley (where we all camped). I have since been on the trail numerous times and this is actually my club’s Adopt-a-Trail so we do maintain the trail every year with the Forest Service’s direction.
When I first started wheeling on the Deer Valley trail it was pretty open. Then came RARE I and RARE II, the Roadless Area Review and Evaluation acts. This is why we now have a corridor between the two areas of wilderness and we are only allowed a short distance off of the established trail to set up camp.
One of the things I wanted to do on this trip was to try to find an old trail to Stevenot Camp. When I first did this trail we could drive to the camp. It had a few buildings but not much else. The trail forked off of the Deer Valley trail just at the crossing of Deer Creek (the second creek crossing on the trail). This trail has been closed since RARE II (around 1980 or so).
Rachel and I, following my GPS, walked the trail and about 100 yards from the creek we found the trail marker, designated 19E02.
To the right was an animal trail but the real trail went to the left. Except for a wide smooth area we didn’t really see any evidence of a trail. We followed the GPS track for about a 1/3 of a mile until we saw some rock cairns
and after that some tree slashes.
We followed those a bit further until we came to some deeply wooded area with a lot of downed trees and realized that with about 1 ½ more miles to go we would not get there and back to camp before dark. Seeing some very large round paw prints (and having forgotten the big popgun in the Cruiser or anything else that made noise except me screaming like a girl) made our decision to turn around easy.
I would like to try to walk in to Stevenot camp next year if anyone else would like to join us.

Y'know, I'd never seen it done before, and I didn't think it could happen so quick.
But, damn, that motor was trash in nanoseconds.

it was great to have a few event newbies at the run, including you guys. i've seen your 25 at mud-n-yer-eye and a couple of other places but never got to meet you previously. did bill tell you about the spark plug wires we usually run on the vortecs? pm me if you need more info.
as for the hike, that's a great idea. i think i'll include it on next years' schedule along with a run for the stockers. we drove part of the way to red lake on the old dirt road. it crosses the pacific rim trail and the scenery is fantastic. so it'll make for a great outing for all the stockers at the event.

Thanks for your help as well. I actually never new about pulling plugs to pump water out of the cylinders of a drowned engine and am now very aware not to crank a drowned engine before pulling the plugs.
As for the bonehead move, I'm really not sure what drove my decision to try to make it through the water crossing once I realized it was too deep. Something in my head said gun it instead of stop and try to back out. At least I got to provide some of you with some entertainment and have already found a replacement engine for $250.
Would still rather have a TLC though!

Hey Surfpig,sometimes you snowboard it too! That was fun back there that year,tons of snow.
Love that way in/out,be sure to check out the Lost Lakes trail.That is good little trail up to those lakes.You can camp up there too.Lots of options on that road.Good campgrounds at Blue Lakes also.

Awesome trip this year. Went above the upper BLue lake and
up and over the Pacfic Crest Trail with truck and then hiked up to the crumbled granite peak just off the trail near the summit and had an incredbile view 360 degrees. Enjoy the pics, you may see someone you know..

no event is the same without the knorr bros. sorry you guys could'nt make it. same goes for joe & paula and a few others out there.
