I've got some damage, nothing extreme. Bent and scraped up sliders, both bumpers, bent one of my rear shock guards. Plasti-dip on my wheels needs to be re-done finally (survived over a year!)

This weekend I'm planning to get the Canyonero back into fightin' shape though.

You bent your sliders? Holy crap! Pictures?

Sorry, I was not very clear-- they are not bent, like bent up into my truck or anything. There is just a dimple essentially on the passenger side. The @sleeoffroad sliders are very stout and have had my truck come down on them more than once. I'll get some pictures up in the damage thread, probably tomorrow.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm just sitting here patiently waiting for @kreiten to post some pics.

Come on man!!!

Me too. Sadly, my DSLR was seriously screwed up in Ouray--a lens contact issue, or possibly circuit failure in the lens itself. Have some photos, but limited. That lens has been repeatedly exposed to water for years, and I think it finally caught up to it. Will post what I have though.

Really looking forward to both Reiten's photos...& we ALL have vivid memories of **Mrs. Reitin** RUNNING around with her camera...getting picked up by the last truck in line, and getting her full work-out every day darting this way and that. ;)

Also looking forward to Ken's shots of the poser after Imogene Pass. His vantage point from way up the hill will trounce any photos from closer to the trucks. I suspect they are going through many hundreds (thousands?) of photos, which can be pretty overwhelming.

I'll post what I have soon...and look forward to Ken & Co.'s pics!

Wheels took a beating in Moab...

MISSING left-rear shock guard, and loose right rear shock guard (gotta say...the clamps on the BP-51 guards are NOT well-designed. *Tension alone* holds them on--rather than a ridge or notch to clamp behind. -Bound to come loose... Not the first time they've come loose...bummer that one is actually GONE...

Left rear gone:

Some impact on skids, but in good shape...

@Markuson wow, thanks for sharing those images. I've got almost the exact same scrapes in the same places (though I've yet to fully examine the truck).

I was behind you a lot in Ouray and you're a solid driver! It was nice meeting you and your wife .

Thanks for the kind word on driving! And so nice to meet you two as well. My wife Julie is kinda shy, but you all were so nice to be around. Thank you for that. We will definitely be back.

in Ouray, the only real damage was to the left-rear plastic bumper, and some slider impact. Most of the damage came from Moab, and especially the second half of the loop from Top of the World. Going up wasn't easy at one particular point, but I'm pretty sure most of the damage happened coming back down on the Eastern side of the loop.

But meh... This kind of damage is no biggie, though I'd like my shock guard back. It also makes for FANTASTIC WIFE PROPAGANDA for purchasing front and rear bumpers! Heehee... ;) In all seriousness, it was a truly "revealing" trip for Julie, as she finally understands the incredible draw to not only places like Ouray (She's always loved that part), but also the need for, and appreciation of the Land Cruiser. What a great trip! She's ready to go again.

Wife Mission: Accomplished! :hillbilly:

@Markuson. Woody recommended to come back same way on top of the world. Last part going up was challenging. How was eastern side. Folks hit diffs, sliders and rear lower shock mounts on the way to Top of the World.

Ya, I wasn't around when Woody said that. Absolutely agree though. The return was MUCH MUCH worse in terms of barriers. I think if I had returned the way I went up, there would be barely any damage beyond the little I sustained in Ouray. The thing was... once you commit to the loop coming down, you are stuck with it... I'm OK with the damage...but I will definitely second the recommendation of coming down the way you go up to Top of the World. Driving alone on a first-time run has its disadvantages... ;)

As for difficulty going up, yes. There is one spot with two routes up a big shelf. The right hand side one was impossible. the left one was not easy. If fact, I was at that point for quite some time figuring out how to do it when there simply wasn't enough traction. Gas was pouring out of my fill-spout for quite some time since the angle I was sitting at was so sharp. I think I heard Willy talking about his doing the same somewhere...

That point was the only time I've ever used crawl control...plus airing down to 21.5psi...and it worked. If I had rear lockers, I think I'd have made it that way as well, but without lockers, the crawl control made the difference, since it controls each wheel individually. I suspect you guys took the same route in that obstacle. There was a big boulder sitting to the right of you as you go sharply up and left...with a shelf you have to miss on your left side. Do you remember this point?

Anyway... fun stuff. Maybe not so smart going alone, but fun to make it for sure. What an incredible view at the top!! Wish I had the DRONE there... I suspect several of us will end up with the same drone at some point...

From Imogene Pass towards the beginning, came down a little hard and scratched the factory rear bumper. Maybe Slee's will be ready in time for Christmas?

@ I was a spotter for four truck thru spot. They made it up easily. We went left side.

Would have helped to have a spotter... but kinda fun trying it without. Next year, I'll definitely try to join you on a pre-run to Ouray (or wherever we end up).

I think Canyonero used crawl in that spot and made it look pretty easy. I didn't and it took a few seconds before ATRAC grabbed hold of the rock and pulled me up. I had doubts while I was waiting for it to grab! That one spot was probably the toughest between Moab and Ouray of the entire trip. Really impressed that you did that alone. I also got the big thumbs up from the wife... she's actually speaking the mod/upgrade language pretty well now... can't ask for more than that!

Getting the wives on board and engaged with upgrade speak is critical! I totally convinced Ang that we need a 12k winch, rear locker and new wheels after taking her down Black Bear Pass. If we hit Moab next year I can probably build a case for a snorkel and front locker :)

About crawl... Ya... Once I engaged crawl, I made it immediately. But I tried several different ways prior to that. It was a traction thing up to that point.

In hindsight, I'd simply hit it faster and use more momentum...but when alone, and without having any idea what to expect beyond that point, i was more cautious. As mentioned above...hindsight will also tell me to come down the way I went up, rather than the loop--which is where most of my truck scrapes came from. ;)

We didn't learn the lesson and came down the way you did. Wasn't horrible, but did most of the slider scraping in that tiny section of the many miles we covered during the trip. Went through my truck this morning. Scraped the sliders which is why they are there. Couple of minor scrapes on the rear bumper from Hells Revenge which is unavoidable. My passenger front mudflap is bent back beyond repair, and I took a chunk out of the rubber piece on the front of my ARB bumper going up the ledge at the river/stream crossing in Ouray as did others. Slight bending of my rear control arm mount passenger side. Other than that, nothing to show underneath and really thought my rear diff could have a scar or two as I know I banged it a couple of times.

Still up in the air on trying to fit skids. Never had them on my 100 and didn't need them. Made it through this trip with no ill effects. The stock protection is far improved over what the 100 has. And, I have the diff drop and no one has tried to fit them with the diff drop in place.

Decisions....

thanks for the props, we just walked in the door, wow what an awesome trip! One speeding ticket, one deer, Moab, Ouray, back to Moab, then Capital Reef and even did part of the Rubicon trail... Ran the Salt flats, drove through the Redwoods etc... Loading some pics now, I'll post some in a couple minutes... Is it too early to get excited about next year:D
