Yeah- there was a long small Boulder garden I forgot about when I talked those in to going that were stock. It's ok. We killed it.
Everyone is coming back so no one got grounded from the mrs'

Honestly Black Bear was easy... it was P-Gulch that gave me the most trouble.

let me guess, this spot. That's my daughter doing it in her 100 series. Everything else isn't bad. It was wet and we both (in our 100's) made it up and then had to strap a couple of 80's up :D It was the driving, not the vehicles

This is the only place you really scrape the underside on blackbear (My 100)

This is the part you need to start being careful between this spot, going down, you hug the wall to the right in Low Low with foot on the brake

Just a few feet before you get to this waterfall and can take a breath

Then this isn't technical, you just have to pay attention making this turn in Low Low with your foot on the brake. Release pressure on the brake to move forward, not giving it any gas

Sorry guys, next year I'll have pics of at least my 200 and more if I join you vs going on the club run

Did you guys air down last year? What PSI were you running?

I have video if you wanted to see that P-Gulch section - just ask

that's what I'm talking about - the boulder field

Yes we did. I think I went down to around 25-30.
I think I was rolling with 20 PSIG. I used an air tank to air up as I have not added a compressor my 200. Works great- easy gear to buy.

Nice pics Romer! We need to meet up for coffee sometime, we are both in Centennial!

I had to winch up P-gulch (but I was not going to give up!) after multiple attempts. It was pretty darn wet when we were there! BTU man made a couple runs at it as well I believe, not sure anyone else did.

I managed to hold up our convoy probably 45 minutes or so (sorry guys!)

Did anyone else use turn assist going down Black Bear?

I'm curious--having never relied on a pre-filled tank...

How large a tank...what PSI do you usually fill the tank to...and approx. how many air-UPS do you tend to get out of it on a day like Ouray (assuming you don't completely deflate the tires...and just air down, etc.)?

I was able to get 4 complete tire fillups from a full 10lb tank. Don't know what they filled it to. Took it to the place and they filled it while I waited. I got rid of my CO2 and use the twin air tank, I see that's on your next list

I aired down to 18 psi and stayed that way until I was back in Ouray. Coming down Imogene you enter that camping area with washboard roads, the air down helps. It then dumps you right above the town.

Ya, a compressor is up next...but I've been curious about the tank thing. Thanks for responding. I'm assuming you took it somewhere that has massively high pressure capabilities...? That's why I'm curious about final pressure when initially filled.

places that sell fire extinguishers also welding supply places. Slee also does it (long drive for you). They will make sure the tank is within its 5 year cert or charge you extra to cert it and likely keep it a day.

just call around or look in the club section for your area and ask

I was thinking about running 18-20 PSI as well. I have a compressor and the money ez-deflator

I use Staun deflators. I have them set to 18 PSI. I also have a nice powertank inflator with a gauge and quick connect so I don't have to hold the end on the tire

The secret on the air tanks- is to freeze them in a deep freeze. Then wrap and take to welding supply place. If you don't you will never get 10 lbs. They will fill to max pressure allowed and will get you 10 pounds or more. Will last entire trip. Doing Ouray and Moab- I wonder - but probably.

I would suggest groups of 5 trucks or so, to keep the groups moving along. I'm very "go with the flow", so just throwing that out there.

Maybe some of the guys who went last year and who know the trails somewhat could be team leads: BTUMan (probably knows the trails better than anyone), WillyBeamin, CodyAustin5, and Kreiten, Atwalz, Steenh, Slee, or myself as other possible "team leads" if they are interested. This might help organize everyone into groups of 4-5 and choose trails for each day.

The up side would be more efficient trail-running and ease of keeping track of everyone in your group/team. The down side would be that people would not get to socialize as much while out on the trail, with people in other groups/teams.

Then again, we should still all meet up for dinner and drinks later on, regardless of what we decide. The 4-5 truck team idea would help for coordination of group text messages; they could be relayed among the "team lead" and each lead could disseminate information to his/her group.

Or lets just jam 20 LC's on a trail and see what happens! I'm good either way!

Maybe the groups could be split by trail difficulty. I've done a lot of the passes near Ouray, but there's a couple I didn't want to attempt solo. My cruiser has no mods, but maybe folks with mods would want to split off to do some more extreme trails. Just a thought.

trailhead tire pressure and top of the mountain tire pressure will not be one in the same

ok - i'll dig it up
OK. Ima askin... ;) Video please?

CB/Radio question...

Currently the only "radios" I have are the typical walkie-talkie style units from Motorola...which are fine for 1-on-1 stuff...
...but I'm curious if any of you have a suggestion for a more substantial, commonly used radio that won't cost an arm and a leg.

I'm not sure what to pursue... for several reasons...

-Often travel alone...
-Don't know what y'all tend to use in a groups like Ouray or Moab...
-Ham radios can be had for cheap, but without a license...isn't that illegal?
-If I choose one setup...I don't want to cut myself off from those using other systems...

On the other hand...the fact that I often travel alone makes me think about the need to contact others in a pinch...
...but I question how many people are even running CB's these days with so much cell coverage for truckers, etc.

So... Question is...what would be most essential in Ouray/Moab? I suppose I could just toss a spotter a second walkie, but if anyone here has a suggestion, I'm all ears...

Any thoughts on that? Thanks for any input...
