Breakdowns on the Rubicon are a daily occurrence. We had an 80 on 35s bust a knuckle and another 80 on 40s break a tie rod end. If you run Rubi, bring a ton of spare parts and hope you get through unscathed. Can’t wait to go back next year in the 40
Interested to hear the failure modes for this stuff and what maintenance if any could prevent.
ask and yee shall receiveGreat pics! Post more if you got em.

Solid list, I rolled the stock AHC in my 2001 LX470, worked great but def had my concerns on the system! I would also add gears would help a ton on this trail!AHC is probably not recommended on Rubicon after watching this fail. After AHC failure, you are out of luck and going to drag that low rider by another rig or winch. Also, good quality sliders such as DOM tube style with a wall thickness of 3/16". They should stick out about 5.5" and kick out really help on this trail. Wider tires and wheel offset could help prevent body damage. ARB steel bumper also took some punishment on LX570. Full underbody HD skids are also necessary including rear LCA guards, shock guards, and thicker tube rear LCA. 35" tires recommended. Selectable lockers front and rear(not crawl control).
Spare part list not complete but what I can think at moment is as follows.
Tools as much as you can bring.Good jack and jack stands if possible,Spare rear driveshaftSpare axles for IFS,Dual batteries plus. you spare in case the main fails. We ran into Bronco on the trails their battery was dead. Their group had to run to town to get a new battery.Steering TRESpare Axles (for IFS). I had RCV axles on 80. so I did not bring spares.Knuckles studs, knuckles for 80. steering link and drag link.spare starterspare alternatorAll fluids, engine oil, tranny fluid, gear oils, grease, brake fluid.Spare gas, depending on your needs. I took 10 gallons. 5 for self and 5 for some else.
More you are prepared in advance fewer issues you will have on the trail. There is no cell service on the trail.
yeah I’m curious too. maybe start a new thread by the owner? How'd the AHC fail on the LX? Damage under the rockers?
My 2001 LX had zero issues with the AHC on the entire trip, that being said I was concerned about it just knowing it has more failure points than regular suspension. Also I put LC springs in the rear just in case we had a failure in the rear I could still have driven out. We almost brought LC torsion bars as spares as a backup plan. The biggest concern I had with my AHC was my sliders are held on with U-Bolts which can move slightly after taking 1,000 solid hits, they themselves can actually take the AHC out and tried to. When I go back next year the sliders will be welded on. System worked perfect but next year I will be running regular suspension. My money is on a blown shock or something getting into the rocker, the truck in q doesn’t have underguards for the rocker
