Howdy all.

Just took posession of a clean project car. First order of business is tires. I've decided to refinish the existing OEM rims for budget purposes. I've seen a variety of threads on tire sizes that work without rubbing that all have some information (but not everything) so at the risk of attracting ire as a new member I thought I would ask here:

If I have stock tires (+60 offset) and a 2" lift with UCAs what is the biggest tire I can run that will also fit as a spare and doe not require pinch weld modifications.

My preference is for 275/70/18s KO3s but if I can get away with something a tad taller and wider I would like to.

Yeah, there've been countless threads on this topic, but occasionally new tires and sizes hit the market. And more guys trying more sizes and brands. So hopefully you'll receive none of that ire @omarsky1980.

I have the same question - about the spare well - for a slightly different reason. I'm suffering from tiremicropsia. Common among off-road enthusiasts, symptoms include: initially seeing a given tire size as large, but later seeing it as small, and wanting even larger tires. Ask your shop if 34s are right for you.

Mostly kidding. But I swear 275/70/18 BFG KOs looked bigger 15 years ago. Also, I want to find a non E-rated tire at least as big as the current KO2s.

I think the stock spare location is the limiting factor in that equation.

So, "what is the tallest tire the factory stock location can fit."
Pretty sure a 33 is about as big as you can go.

As for width, I think a 275 is about as wide as you can go before you start rubbing alot.

Is that an issue with the offset on the factory 18's?

Is that an issue with the offset on the OEM 18's? On the 16's many (including me) have fit a 285/75-16 with no rubbing issues, which makes me think that with a similar offset a 285/65-18 shouldn't be a problem as it's approximately the same outer diameter... however as I have not looked into going with an 18" wheel, I don't know if that's a tire size that's readily available. Just my opinion, but I feel like the 18" wheels look too big on the 100, or at least that they make the tire look relatively low-profile compared with a 16" or 17".

a 275-70-18 calcs out at 33.2
285-70-18 calcs out at 33.7

Those wheel arches are looking kind of lonely LOL. What size lift are you running?

I'm on my 3rd UZJ100 and 33.25" is biggest spare I have ben able to fit under. I have seen/read people claiming they fit 34.25" (fully inflated) but I am skeptical.

It all depends on which outfit manufactured your receiver hitch. Some take a 33+, others a sub 33 is a tight squeeze. Get rid of the hitch and a 35 fits.

Anyone with OBA partially deflate the spare and fit something larger?
I have pondered this too, but didn't warm up to it because tires have their most structural integrity when air'd up. And I didn't want to on tear risk to my under rig mounted spare while out on trails, one rocky and/or gnarly ledge condition and bad line could shred an uninflated spare like it was a trash bag.
