2001 Touchscreen/HVAC concerns (1 Viewer)

Guys,
I've been doing a little searching and can't find out what a guy has to go thru to fix the touchscreen when it goes out. Do you lose AC and Heat capabilities too? How do you fix such a thing and should you just avoid buying a LC that has the touchscreen?

I currently own a 2001 with a fully functioning touchscreen, but the issue has been on my mind. My aging father has me shopping around for a similar LC for him and I'm wondering if I should avoid touchscreen equipped LC's.
