Greetings everyone,

I’m new to the forum and currently working on a brake system issue with my 2001 Lexus LX470.

I’m looking to replace the ABS brake booster / master cylinder assembly, and my original part number is 47050-60042.

While searching for a replacement (primarily on eBay), I’ve encountered conflicting information regarding compatibility:
  • Some sellers claim that 47050-60010, 47050-60042, and 47050-60043 are all interchangeable and fit 1998–2007 models
  • Others state that these parts are NOT compatible across different years
  • A few listings suggest that all 100-series use the same unit, with only minor differences such as sensors
  • Some sources specifically mention that 2000–2002 models require a unique version
Given the cost of this component and the critical nature of the braking system, I want to avoid installing an incompatible unit.

Please also educates me of where I can buy this parts under $800

Thanks

I would not buy a brake master from ebay.
I would not, buy a used master. With Exceptions, proper due diligence and inspection. Not something I recommend or advise on..
I would not buy these so-called rebuilt master.

I would use VIN # ordering a new booster ASSY w/master (the whole brake master ASSY). Which, as you found. 47050-60042 is correct for 2001.
I would buy from Toyota or Lexus Dealership within the USA only.

What I can tell you:
All Brake Masters, are not the same. Toyota gives us 4 different brake Master P/N for USA 100 series.
We do know, 98-99 have only one rear brake line.
We do know the first to have two rear brake line was 2000.
We do know 2000, has the "A" type pressure sensor. Which was first year this sensor added to master.
We do know 2001 through 2007 use the "B" type pressure sensor.

We do NOT know the difference between 2001 & 2007 masters. There may be variation within ABS unit and or a variation in valves within master. Which if, would be to compensate for the larger front caliper pistons, introduced in 2003 (2003 thru 2007)

All booster ASSY (brake control wire, booster motor, booster pump & accumulator) are the same. These components can be purchased separately or as a whole unit.

I've a thread in 100 series tech section, for Toyota Dealership parts sales. My go to for brake master is either my local Toyota Dealership, when need it today. Or Serra Toyota, who's only Dealership in the world. That repacks for shipping! Where most online sellers are lazy, and will not repack parts that tend to get shipping damage. Serra Toyota of Decatur does. i.e. Brake master, Radiator, FDS (AKA CV), etc..

Thank you so much for the explanation, I was choosing ebey cuz local toyota dealer quotes me for $2000+ for this part, and I am going to sell this car soon once ABS is fixed, I do understand that the risk that Ebey brought, and I will start looking for decent OEM parts, any chance I can get decent parts around $1000? the website you provide do sell for $1300 ish

Thanks again

Everything you need to know posted by 2001LC above. To reiterate what are, to me, the most important points:

1- Buy the correct part number for your vehicle, which you have
2- DO NOT buy from eBay or other online marketplaces. Only buy from a Toyota dealer. eBay, etc., are full of chinese fakes packaged in legitimate-looking "Toyota" packaging, which is also fake.

Toyota has sale of 15, 20 and even 25% off that $1,300, which is a great deal. The website I gave you, will have a sale. They've had 2 or 3 last 5 months at 25% off wholesale. Get on their email list. There other Toyota & Lexus Dealership sales events. But for Master, Rad's, R&P, FDS, etc. I'd only buy from website Serra Toyota I gave you or locally, as I said.

Good day, Sir

So I received parts, 47050-60042 from Local toyota delaership, installed, but the tech told me the dashboard still have codes on, don't know if need to do some programming or learning to have the code off? the tech are still figuring out

do you have any instruction on this?

Thanks

Assuming the CEL, was DTC (codes) related to an failure in the brake master assy. He only needs to, clear the codes.

Thanks you sir, I am still waiting for tech's answer, I replaced the whole assembly unit which should be no issue working on it, hopefully he cleared the codes and everything works good.

the previous parts I put is on was wrong part number, which the codes will be gone once car started, but will come back in 3-10 minutes, and it will trigger the ABS and lock up the wheels

Hi, sir

Tech tried to calibrate the unit, but says the computer does not read/communicate to the unit, somehow brake seems work, but codes are on, and the computer does not read codes

The reservoir label shows 47210-60062, parts ordered from local Toyota dealership, tech doubt the parts might have internal failure on ecu so have this issue

Do I ask replacement from Toyota or this might be other failure other than abs unit

Thanks

No calibration needed, when install new brake master.

Try disconnect battery for 30 minutes. To clean CEL.

You've a separate issue, reading tech stream (codes and data stream).

the reader shows no communication, still try disconnecting?

Not all DTC (Detected Trouble Codes) will clear CEL (Check Engine Light) of dash. By disconnecting battery for 30 minutes, but does clears most DTC. But until you can connect to tech stream, it's worth a try.

Notes:
Most any DTC, will shut down ABS. Once DTC cleared, ABS will go back to normal operation. Lights on dash (ABS, VSC, ATAC) will clear.

Good day, Sir

So I received parts, 47050-60042 from Local toyota delaership, installed,
That number on reservoir, is not the PN. The number on the box that Booster ASSY with Brake Master (the whole master) came in. Is the part number.
but the tech told me the dashboard still have codes on,
Dash CEL and other warning lights. Are not themselves codes. But they do indicate DTC present.

I do not know, why you replaced the brake master?

You've not stated what DTC were/are present?

You/Your mechanic has not stated if or why codes can't be pulled from tech stream. Which to read. We hook-up to OBDII port, which is above gas pedal. The FSM also has ways to read without a reader! Is this a Toyota Dealership, Toyota Specialist or INDY shop?

If hooked up to OBDII port: Could be a bad reader, bend connecting pin, blown fuse, wire short, bad ECU, etc. ?

So I ordered the entire part named Brake Master Cylinder Assy, my tech call it ABS module, he replaced the part, and had a little test drive, claim it works fine, but there’s light on dash, ABS,VSC ish

He said he try to clear the codes so the light will gone, but when he connect, the computer he use can’t read the part installed, says no communication, which he can not clear the codes to get off the dash light

My tech is confusing too, He thought is Toyota sending a wrong part/failed part, but I have him try to disconnect for 30 minutes and see if works

Sorry my description is confusing, I have minimal knowledge to mechanic so I just describe what tech told me

Tech is from a tune shop, they did a lot of work for Toyota off-road vehicles, but just not old one

New in the box "BRAKE BOOSTER ASSY, W/MASTER CYLINDER" 47050-60042. Correct?

He said he try to clear the codes so the light will gone, but when he connect, the computer he use can’t read the part installed, says no communication, which he can not clear the codes to get off the dash light
So he could not read codes either.
So why was brake master replaced?

As I stated, this works in for most DTC, but not all. But those DTC must be corrected first. Or they just come right back.

1.should be a YES, that’s the part I ordered from Toyota

2. Brake master I refer to the brake booster assy, w/master cylinder

3.the light can not be off as no communication to unit

You could be having an issue similar to what's mentioned in the above thread

Why was brake master replaced?
That is what tech ask me to replace the entire 47050-60042

Also this is the picture of the part I received from toyota, right now it's kind a s*** show, my tech did not check very careful for the part, and the resorvoir looks different than what should be like, I assume there's risk that toyota send a wrong part to me and trying to cover their fault
