I am starting work on 97 FJ80 and wonder where the best location to put the lift pads on a 2 post lift to raise and support the truck. I am primarily interested in where to put the front support pads. The factory manual doesn't show locations for using a 2 post lift. Anyone with experience tell me where the best place to put the front lift pad

IIRC you have to put them inboard from the control arm/radius arm mounts on the frame. Kinda leaves the rig barely balanced when lifted that way. Its a good idea to use a "steady stand" on both ends. You don't want it moving around when you wrench on it. John

for a little extra safety, consider strapping the frame to the lift arms with some ratchet straps.
I recall using jack-stands while replacing springs on a vehicle and had the stands on the frame just aft of the front control arms and back as far as I could go for the rear. With the rear tires removed the truck was teetering a little.
I put the wheels back on and moved the rear stands to the rear of the frame and front stands to the front of the frame.

Thanks - I ended up taking your advice and putting the lift pads on the frame behind the front control arm frame mounts and then used screw jacks on each end to stabilize. Sure doesn't look optimal but with the additional supports it seems stable. Thanks again for the advice

I always put them right on the bottom of the frame side control arm mount/joint. Obviously that wouldn't work if you were removing a control arm. It's not a bad idea to strap the rear down either.

Does anyone have photos or a diagram? I recently used a mechanic friends two post lift and the FSM doesn't have info on where to lift from. I believe he placed the pads under the control arm mounts (I think that's what those are called) which is the first time I've seen that.
