I was told of this section of the Forum, so I decided to post a duplicate thread here...

I just got back from a trip to Chicago to pick up 2 FJ-55's

A little back story, my 2nd cousin had them for a few years, one is a 76, one is a 79. the body pretty much rusted through on the 79, so he swapped bodies out with the 76, which isnt much better on the outside, but the interior is nice on the 76 (Body)...

The 79 (Frame) is stock with some 31" BFG's its fot the 2f engine, power steering, and a few other doo-dads.

The 76 (Frame) has a spring over conv. With about a 4" lift on top of that. I am thinking about stealing the lift springs and putting them on the 79.

I have alot of body work to do on the 79 as in rocker panels, quarter panels, rust in general... I will be parting out the 76 (Frame) so be on the look out for that...

So anyway, here are some pictures, I will get more pictures as I go.

Here is the 79 (Frame)

Welcome to the Knights of the Pig section. Did you read what was posted on your thread in the tech section? Very sound advice there. This is the section where you will find the best advice related specifically to your Pig. Tech is best for mechanical issues shared with the FJ40.

So, how far do you plan on taking this project? I ask because clarifing what you plan to do might help get you the advice that can save you money and frustration in the long run.

The SOA Conversion looks very redneck-ish, I think I am just going to take the springs.

I only want to run 33'' Tires, nothing more. This is going to be a beach cruiser/fishing rig.

Where are you located? What is the plan with those SOA'd axles?

I'm In Jacksonville NC.

I'm probably going to part out the 76 frame.

$500 Takes the green one as is, Has title as well.

Man I wish you were closer. I would jump on that.

Ok whats happening here?

That makes 4 or 5 new piggie owners in NC in just over a week.
You got a neighboor that just picked up a piggy in fayetville, two in RDU, im in GSO.

Check out Olde North State Cruisers for some local cruiserheads and a few yahoos.

there is a classified sticky to find and sell some of those parts
How is the roof on the 76? Oh and I need those side view mirrors to be legal :D

Welcome and look forward to see you combine the swine.

I'm still on this project, I had to take it home to Texas before I deployed to Afghanistan. My dad has been doing mechanical stuff to it here and there to get it running better. I had to junk the SOA frame. I had no time to get it to a good home... I have changed my mind on tire size, I think a 35"-37" tire would be best.

I am talking to a 4X4 shop in Austin to see about getting a SOA conversion done, I looked at 4X4labs' crossover steering, and am probably going to go with that. I'm also going to other some new rocker panels, and maybe some rear corners for it.

Paint is probably going to be a CARC desert tan.

How do these things handle larger tires without a regear? I'm used to diesels that don't need a regear IOT turn big tires. I'm not talking about off roading, just street driving.

I found a set of 35X12.50/R15 SSR's on Craigslist for pretty cheap, I'm going to try to get them this week.
