Some PO mounted mine, using a bracket that attaches (two legs - one) to the 3 o'clock water pump bolt (with a longer bolt) and the other, runs directly to the left, to the front head bolt - alternator bracket allows tightening belt.

I'm on my way to Austin, no way to take a picture - I'm sure Georg ( @orangefj45 ) can help.

If you are trying to stay exactly to spec, Georg can probably answer that as well.

I've read a number of threads that talk about tapping the block and/or head - try google "ih8mud: fj40 tapping head for PS pump"

Amazing. Google has already indexed your post above. 3 min later.

Are you trying to stay with the oem Toyota pump or are you thinking about running a sag pump?

Georg @ Valley Hybrids
Georg, it's been so long I kinda forgot the pros and cons. I'd like to go OEM but do remind me what I'm in for either way.

What about the ac compressor pump - how does it mount if I ever do that?

Check out this thread: TJ has some pretty good pics of some various options if you're trying to keep the OEM pump.

For a Saginaw pump, my JT Outfitters bracket has been working fine with a wider Volvo pulley - I know some people don't like JTO but whatever.

Start with this post and read the next couple of posts:

Thanks - good read.

Waiting on this BS to stop so I can get something done. Friggin 11* this morning. Hey, this is TN where it hits 110 in the summer, not stinkin Alberta CA. What gives? Another 1/2" of ice tonite. Why, when its 25*, does it rain?

Since I cannot work on my truck, I can look for stuff for the garage to make it more man-cave-ish. My friend Rainman just created a new man-cave poster.

And, I need to get out there and sand that darn rear axle. Sigh.... After 12 hours of rain, it still looks like this outside. MELT DANGIT!

What is that, a flurry? :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

Yeah RWB, snow is fine. 3" of ice with 3" of rain and temps in the mid 30s for 18 hours is not.

I have the oem bracket and a used pump.

However, I prefer the sag pumps. Why?!
1) availability
2) cost
3) higher pressure output
4) ask me, they're more reliable when rebuilt ( the only truly good reman Toyota ps pumps are the ones you buy from the dealer at $450+ ........)

Sure, they both work and they both have their place. But replacing a sag pump is easier, cheaper and they're available at any auto parts store the same day you need them at a fraction of the cost of the Toyota pump.

I hear you on those points , but I hate using Chevy parts on a Toyota - just my anal opinion . I'm really curious if any of the late model V8 or V6 pumps could be used and adapted , say off a Tacoma like mine ...might be worth a try as the Japanese hate re-tooling and rarely change much of anything except brackets .

The late model Toyota pumps have gotten a lot more reliable. But most if them are driven off the timing gear set and utilize a remote reservoir. No way to graft that onto any type of F-series engine.

Georg, do you have a short list of Toyota pumps that might work? There seem to be quite a quite a few part numbers used over the years.

I owned an '80 FJ40 with factory power steering during the '90's. Even back then the pump always leaked.
