What’s up Mud gurus! I have a no start issue with my 94 KZJ78 with the 1KZ-TE turbo diesel motor. The truck was driving perfectly fine and wasn’t indicating any issues before it decided to not start.

I pulled the ECU to check for leaking capacitors but everything looked perfect, so I know it’s not that. I cracked the fuel line and cranked to see if fuel was being sent and not a drop of fuel was reaching the rail.

I have a full charged and basically new Interstate battery, plenty of diesel (10+ gallons) in the tank, and all of the grounds look solid. What could be causing my no-start? I really need this truck running to be able to get to work, any help would be really appreciated. Below I have a short video of the truck cranking but not starting:

…an air leak into the feed line to or from the fuel filter, possible cracking if they’re old and brittle?

…on a similar problem I worked back from the injection pump seeing where I could get fuel, and in the end it was the line to the filter…

Air getting into the fuel lines would usually present in harder/delayed starting and rough idle until the air is worked out.

In this case, the OP is stating getting NO fuel. I would begin with checking the fuel cutoff soleniod. Make sure it is good and functioning correctly. There are plenty of threads on this issue and troubleshooting procedures. I think there was already a thread as well where a 1KZ had a bad fuel cutoff soleniod. The manual for this engine would also have the values for testing the soleniod to rule that out.

Best of luck chasing this down.

UPDATE: The truck is now running like new. I was about to pull the spill control valve to toggle the plunger and make sure it wasn't stuck when I decided to pull the outlet hose on the fuel filter primer pump to verify I was pushing fuel out. Lo and behold, not a drop. I ordered a brand new unit from Partsouq (highly recommend if you cant get a part stateside) and it arrived in 4 days from the UAE! After install, a battery recharge, and a couple hard starts, it runs great now. Thank for the responses and help everyone!

I have a similar issue on my ‘95 KZJ78 w 1KZ-TE as well. It’s random but seems a pattern is if it sits after more than 6 hrs not getting fuel. Did you replace the fuel filter or primer?

The fuel filter was replaced around 6 months ago, so to fix this issue I replaced the fuel primer. the part number is used to order off of Partsouq was 23301-54620

Thanks much. Will give a go.
To give another data point I had to replace the fuel filter primer as well, but it was the port where the heating element goes in that was letting air in. So just something to watch for if your truck has that feature. If it does I would also grab new screws that attach the heater to the housing. Mine rounded out even with a JIS screwdriver.
