Anyone dealt with this exhaust pipe removal, the middle pipe is like a puzzle i cant figure out, how the heck do i remove it? And then i still have to put the new one in… damn.

Remove the side step bracket.

Drop the rear driveshaft at the transfer case output.

Let the cross-member down about 3-5" if possible, then snake it out.

Also, you will need to remove the rubber damper that's bolted to the front portion of the center pipe were it attaches to the front pipe. 2 bolts for that.

Beno is correct. If you're removing it, I would highly recommend upgrading to 3". You will need to smush and oval the 3" over the crossmember there.

Ok so far I’ve done 2 things right I did remove the side step bracket and the damper, now I’ll just drop the driveshaft and see what I can do about the cross member, thank you so much

Good info. I like threads like this which bring awareness to what I should expect when it is my time.

I need to address an exhaust issue already because the tail end of my exhaust is touching the support bracket of the kaymar bumper wing and sometimes will make an odd rattling sound at random times (not always). With my bad hearing, I had to get a friend help me trace it down.

honestly i thought removing exhaust manifold along with studs was going to be the nightmare but that was the easiest part lol

Thanks for sharing this. My exhaust has multiple leaks and the muffler is rotten, so I have to replace mine as well. Where are you sourcing your new components from? Are you going custom? Are you thinking of going to 3"?

I'm looking forward to more posts here as more info = more easier

I was thinking of going custom but since the oem exhaust manifold and pipe are still available I opted for that option, and considering my 1HZ is not turbo I’m ok with the OEM 2.5 inch, I will post updates once i get it out with OGBenos recommendations. I use Megazip to source part #

So dont hate me y’all but i dropped the cross-member and removed the drive shaft and still couldn’t snake it through, so I got frustrated and used a dremel to remove the damper and I’m just going to have it welded back on smh

Damper? Do you mean this piece? My exhaust does not have anything remotely similar to that for mounting and definitely no dampers anywhere on the exhaust system.

Good gracious. That's a monster of a damper. I wonder if they added that to prevent exhaust manifold studs from sheering off.

When I did a 1hz conversion to a FJ73, my favourite exhaust shop had diagrams of all the landcruiser exhaust systems, so I got him to fabricate the HZJ73 exhaust for me. I could see the over the chassis part was going to be difficult to remove if I had to, so I had him add a joint somewhere above the transmission.

That's it. I would only add: remember to mark the driveshaft's orientation prior to dropping it.
