Well, in preparation for the arrival of my very sick HDJ81 I'm wondering about who has the parts for these things? Do I visit my Toyota dealer, or do I see G&S or Extremebends? Not sure yet what I'll need, just puttin' it out there in general.

Also, what about a good source for FSM's?

Thanks as always!

Peter

Sometimes speedier responses are obtained by including your area in your avatar or post.

Oops! I forgot this is the WORLDWIDE web. I'm in the Vancouver area. One of these days I'll get one of those fancy custom avatars. I only recently learned what the hell an avatar was so go easy on me!

There! Edited to include fancy Avatar and location. That's the main north highway through Haiti to the Domincan Republic.

Lots of parts you can get at Toyota.
Some can be rebuilt (turbo, starter, alternator) if needed.
Other can be had from G&S, 4wheel auto, and used.
I have had a few unlucky bouts with my HDJ81 and I have had no issues getting parts.

As for your engine, open it up and see. :)

I might try ADP distributors (http://www.adpdist.com)
They rebuilt my tubro (and cruiser_guy's) and also do pretty much all things diesel (rebuild engines).
Or I would try Piers Diesel (http://www.piersdiesel.com/).

If you just wanted to pay someone to do it and forget about it, you might try Rob at Radd Cruisers (http://www.raddcruisers.ca). He is in Nanimo. Or Steve at extreme bends. I would also talk to Greg or Sheldon, they might be able to help. Worst case scenario they would probably get you an engine.

Lots of options.
Let us know what you find inside.

Cheers,
Nick

BTW: Let me know if you find a good place to get FSM.
I would like one, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

I think unless you walk to the Toyota parts counter with parts numbers in hand, you'll probably just get a wierd look when you tell them the make and model and engine of your truck. :)

G&S do have lots of diesel parts kicking around, and they know Toyota diesels very well. But I have the feeling that you are going to need more than just that with your pooched engine. Ciaran Wilson is at Langley, and he is a Toyota master tech who has lots of experience with Toyota diesels (a rarity in these parts)...and he's an all-around good guy to boot. He's very busy, but if you need his services for the rebuild, you may want to give him a call at 604-514-3716.

Good luck.

Yep, thanks Stone. I know Ciaran and your right- good man. I'm gonna do the work myself but I'll keep him in mind if needed. I won't know just what I need until I open 'er up- that looks like it should happen next weekend. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time...

you can also get a lot of parts from ENS Toyota industrial... as a last resort.
also Dan and Kevin at 4wheelauto...

Thanks guys. I've sent off emails.

Well, the BEB's looked much like the others I've seen here on MUD. That is until I got to #4. It was missing entirely. Bunch of grit in the pan, that's all. 5&6 were in tact. It was just #4 that was lunched. Needless to say, the crank is in rough shape as is the rod. I'll know more when I pull the offending parts and have a machine shop look at them.
