I have the same intermittent ticking noise on my hdj81 with the 1hd-ft. It comes and goes as it pleases. I never recall hearing it when I first got it off the boat. Then I just heard it one day and not the next. Been that way for years. I worried about it at first and tried aimlessly to pinpoint it to no avail.
