Yeah I have no issues with doing the wiring. I have just rebuilt the engine, put new alternator, battery, leads, coil, ect. so all that stuff is good now for a long time. I'm leaning toward full rewiring with new connectors. Previous owners have spliced and tapped in everywhere, as you said, thats what kills it. I am always hesitant to pressure wash the engine bay due to the condition of wiring, so may be worth going all out and not having to worry.

Mate,

You may want to replace the entire ECU harness and be done with it. I think the brittle harness will cause you grief from time to time due to broken strands, crispy connectors, etc. Assuming you're planning on keeping the 80 for a long time!

Yeah the plan is to keep it for a long time. If I replace the whole harness, can it be replaced with something that hooks straight into an aftermarket ECU? or would it be a matter of putting a new stock wiring harness and adding in the aftermarket ECU after?
As its an early 95 model it has no OBD2, but id like to be able to see whats going on, and theres plans for a turbo later on so ECU upgrade would be required anyway.

I'm unfamiliar with the OZ vehicles but my guess is that the OEM harness will simply terminate inside the cab like your current one. It comes with a super large grommet. So, if you're possibly moving toward an aftermarket ECU, then you might as well get that aftermarket harness. I assume that ECU will provide it's own harness, no?

Yeah that's what I'm not too sure about. Whether the ECU will come with enough that it will replace everything or if I will need to add connectors and that. I'll need to do a bit of research I think. I'm assuming most people tap into the exisitng harness for ease of intallation, but if it can be used without the existing and I just need to put new connectors on for the injectors, sensors ect. then that'd suit fine.

Last spring I bought a brand new entire engine wiring harness for my 1994. It cost $400 at Cruiserparts.com in New Hampshire.
