Does anyone offer a completely rebuilt engine? It would be nice to have a completely new engine shipped to me and to just swap it in and add the drain pan and valve cover.

This is why I would think that just having the existing engine rebuilt locally might be the best bet? I could pull the engine, drain pan and valve cover and take the whole shebang to the machine shop?

sorry, not meant to hijack.....

I would love this option. I know my engine is getting weak and next year will be time to replace or rebuild.

I've considered buying a used engine, have it gone thru then swap when I have the time. Then sell my current motor to whoever might want to do the same.

Perfect Engine in LA rebuilds them, but they do not ship. Local pickup with rebuildable core only. Not sure how much they charge for a 1FZE and I have never done business with them so I don't know about the quality of their work. I know other people that have used them and it has been OK so far.

They have a shop in San Diego too.

one more little note.... we should all do thorough tests to make sure our motors are in fact "worn out". I did a compression test and my compression was still fine. I literally rebuilt my motor for three reasons: to learn, make it reliable, prepare it for forced induction. It turned out to be a long project and the "fun" wore off pretty quick. I did learn a lot and now i do have a reliable motor that is ready for forced induction. But my truck was down for a while and i spent a lot of $$$. Plus, when i had the block at the machine shop the machinist said that the motor had no signs of wear at all.

Eddings engines have reman engines for the 80. I understand they do the high perfomance engines (2F) for Man-A-Fre.

good points, how many miles did you have when you went to rebuild it?

213,000. The machinist was completely confused why i brought the motor to him. I told him to make it like new and he said it practically already was :o

I will add that i had run mobil 1 synthetic oil since i purchased it with 115,000 on it. The machine shop said that oil certainly helped maintain such a good motor.

Taa daaa, knock codes gone. Replaced supposedly OEM knock sensors (e-bay) with one I picked up from Toyota dealer, and was able to set timing to factory spec. Without throwing a code. Rebuild complete! Lesson learned - you get what you pay for.

I'm chasing down knock sensor #1 error code as we speak. glad you fixed your issue!

What is the consensus on when to update fuel mapping after a rebuild? If you increase piston size and/or porting and polishing the head?

I would like to increase HP by porting/polishing but am concerned about making the engine run lean and the issues resulting f from it.

I don't think there would be any issues with your 97 as the ECM has proven capable of supporting the TRD supercharger in stock form which would be more extreme than an overbore with port and polish.
