Hi Folks - I've taken an interest in my family's 1998 4Runner SR5 (only 137K miles), it's clean, runs smooth, all the maintenance is up to date and no rust at all.

I noticed the fuel gauge either reads empty or full. My conclusion is that the fuel gauge sensor in the tank needs to be replaced. It's not a huge issue however, it's annoying to gauge where you are in the tank based on the mileage and at this point, I've had anywhere between 11 and 19 mpg between fill-ups. Worst case, this issue leaves me stranded.

Has anyone else come across this problem before on their 4Runner?

If so, what is the cost for repair / parts for the job?

Also - I noticed the light bulb behind the clock is out but, that seems to be a re-occurring problem with these 3rd gen 4runners.

Thanks all!
