PDI front mount.

Cheers

Ah, I haven't seen FFM before. I did see that it didn't match my PDI stuff. What motivated you guys to go that route? Something cool I'm missing out on?

Well, the FTE has a different flange pattern and size at the intake manifold than the FT. So we couldn’t use our old FT 90*. The FFM is certainly super nice and suits the FTE flange. It’s a little larger than the FT PDI intercooler piping as well so we need a reducing couple at the FFM. I thought about upsizing the PDI intercooler piping to match the FFM but it just barely fits now with the two batteries. It would require a lot of work to redo it, batteries may have to be raised and or the piping completely routed differently. Right now it all just barely fits.

IIRC the FFM is 3” and our current PDI plumbing is 2.5”. It certainly would be ideal to go to 3” on it all and even up the size of the IC but honestly I don’t see the point of redoing it unless John wants every single bit of hp and torque out of the FTE.

It’s not like this setup is going to be a slouch in our current configuration. I doubt we will have EGT issues either.

We are talking about air box though. The Moonlight is certainly nice and is 4” in and out. However, it does not sit well and or is not meant to be hard plumbed to the turbo. When I say hard I simply mean silicone hose and a piece of SS pipe. Moonlight sets it up for using an accordion hose, the one supplied is rather janky in my opinion. The surface area of the filter to be honest is not that large and it runs an aftermarket filter. We just built a custom air box in another project that uses a much larger 200-series filter and is hard plumbed to the turbo. John is keen on it.

Cheers

The PDI airbox also suits a 200 series air filter. Haven't run one myself (I had the moonlight one in my HDJ80) but have seen a few and they seem solid

Great info, thanks for the reply @SNLC !

That's the airbox I have. I really like it.

@Lumpskie @AussieHJCruza this is just one of the scenarios where we are kind of caught in this weird place of parts that were bought thinking we were going to install the FT. Some of that stuff works and some of it won’t. The custom airbox @SNLC did for that 45 series is really nice and fits the truck perfect. That’s just the most logical choice at the moment.

Don’t get me wrong it is a nice air box. There is a few things I don’t like about it though like the accordion hose. The wing nuts too, they are pretty small and easy to lose.

Things have changed a lot since the Cruiser came in the shop with the FT in it.

Cheers

The PDI came with an accordian hose? Or the moonlight? My PDI came with a nice silicone hose and a 200 series filter... 4" inlet and outlet. It really seems like good quality.

I agree. If I could do custom and perfect, that's the direction I'd go. Apologies if I took the thread off track a bit.

I had not looked at the PDI. I do like the spec sheet or info on it but they don’t really have any pics.

For us it is really just about making things fit nicely and be reliable. I feel like the accordion hose is not as durable as a more solid piping.

A little issue in our A/C lines but I think I have solved the problem by forming this.

If you look close above you can see the hard line for the vacuum. That’s from vac pump to reservoir to brake booster. Most of these parts are NLA so they were taken from the HDJ80 donor and cleaned up.

The reservoir is buried down in there in the stock location.

Also, you can kind of see it, we built a bracket for the turbo pressure sensor and mounted that to the manifold. Since this is an EGR delete and an FTE all we need vacuum for is this and the brake booster. There is no VSV or actuator on the pump for a/c. Idle up for a/c is controlled by the FTE injection pump and ECU automatically.

Pretty nice to have simplified a fairly complicated system when EGR system is fitted.
