Bought it and it had a high idle.

Replaced for maintenance

Timing belt, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, front main, injectors, valve cover gaskets, water pump, misc vacuum hoses, coolant flush, brake flush, P/S flush, trans filter, fuel filter, intake gaskets and so on................

Still flipping high idle at 1,200 rpm's

Checked the Pot, some screw on the throttle body, AIC valve, installed new coolant temp sensor for EFI, set timing, TPS and so on.......I have given up........Toyota tech friend of mine is baffled.

ideas?

Howdy! Disconnect the throttle cable to see if it is too short to allow the air control valve(butterfly) to close all of the way. Could have bent brackets, damage to cable, or too much carpet under the gas pedal. John

that looks like a nice rig.
2X on the throttle cable. Maby take off the air inlet and view the valves range of motion...

I know how fun it is to take off the intake on a 3VZ, is there a chance you left a vaccum port open??

What does it do on a cold start?? Idle around 1500 rpm??

I have had the intake off 3 times, I am pretty sure nothing off.

I have adjusted and checked adjustment of TB and had it running without any mechanical parts bolted on.

It runs great, idles well. Just acts like the choke is on and wont drop.

Not sure about the 1,500 mark as I try not to let it idle for long.

I'm thinking electrical, just baffled at this point.

the first time i put my 3vz intake manifold on I switched two hoses. I essentially hooked the fuel return line to the wrong hose and filled my engine with gasoline. It was running out the throttle body, and filled the entire exhaust system. Amazing it dident hydrolock, i changed the oil soon after that. The engine runs pretty good still...knock on wood.

Thats what happans when you dont take lots of pics of the 3vz vacuum s***, that engine is mega complex in that area. funny thing is when you get one torn down its really a basic std. engine, but fully dressed its a nightmare.

Did you test your idle air control valve? I have a DSM in highschool and that was the source of many of my headaches.

The fsm has the testing procedure.

good luck

My buddy is one of my tech's and we have went over this every night for a week. Using AllData online, MUD and calling other tech's

Were not back yard and have the tools.....

I am thinking that smoking it might be a good idea, but I dont think its vacuum..

i know this is elementary but once i bought a truck that needed a tune up real bad (cj7) cause it had a crappy idle and bad hesitation..........after the tune up it had a crazy high idle......seems the PO just cranked up the idle screw to make up for the lack of maintenence!!!!good luck

Thermal switch inside throttle body is bad.

Place tape over hole just inside throttle body this side of butterfly and stated it up. BAM! Cranked idle to as low as 250 with screw on side of throttle body.

On the hunt for another T-body.

I have a 91 4Runner RV 6 with a 3VZE engine and have the opposite problem my Idle is low ,and I cannot get it to stay at least 800 rpm when stopped and in drive. Also I am not really versed in how to communicate in this forum as I am new and bewildered. I hope you can help me and I will try to work out your problem.
