Our recent find that hadn't been turneed opver in years took fuel pump, fuel filter and new fuel lines. I little coaxing and it turnde over.
Good luck. Looks like fun.

WTF???? Is this English?

Auto correct the words mentally. Yes, it's English.

Great find. Can't wait see the next stages.

So we dropped the fuel tank and sent it to a radiator shop to clean out the gas/gunk and installed a new fuel pump. Started right up and drovie it around the yard of my father in law's construction business only to hear loud knocking. Tuned it up and tried heavy oil to no avail, looks like a rod bearing. Bummer as it only has 107k on the truck but explains why his 88 year old dad parked it 5+ years ago.

Thoughts on a rebuild vs. dropping a solid donor 3Fe?

I am leaning on the rebuild rather than putting a 200k+ 3FE back into what is otherwise a solid FJ62.

Barn find

Great score on that cruiser. i would fix that engine. for what you will spend on a conversion you can spend it on a rebuilt or used motor. You scored big time!

Check if the fuel tank recall was done, if not you can get a brand new tank for nuthin'.

Fuel tank recall...?? PM me more about that please. That Grandpa deserves something special. Gallon of good bourbon and a couple glasses..?? Great find, take deep breaths, slow down and ask a thousand questions before making a single mistake.

How about a pic under the hood??

First of all that is one sweet looking rig you got from the old man,he deserves something nice from you even if the engine has a knock.About the engine knock just take one step at a time before jumping the gun about replacing an engine,if it is a rod knock you still might have a chance of salvaging the crank and just install bearing or maybe a rod if needed.i would check oil pressure first with a manual gauge and see what you have if you have more than 10 psi at idle you should be ok then i would try to find the noise which cylinder is causing your noise by pulling plug wires one at a time till the noise dampens or slows down and also check valve lash to see if any bent push rod.

If a rod or main bearing gets chewed up as long the crank is not damaged you can still save this engine i have done this several times saving the customer hundreds of dollars,if valve lash is ok perform a compression test to see if the engine is worth saving also check the oil plug if it pop out i'm sure you would have seen massive oil leak if it did.take some under hood pics to see if the emission system is still intact and worth driving it here to Cali. good luck on your new project and keep us posted.
