Thought I had a thread stated on here but can't find it so sorry but here goes on a subject that probably been beat to death but I need thoughts on what to do .

My truck: 1990 Toyota Pickup Extra Cab 3VZ 3. Liter 5 speed ,manual transmission no air conditioning 178,117 miles . VIN # JT4VN13D3L5015952

I'm in Canada
The head gasket recall was never done on this truck ! There is no sign of water in the oil etc. The valve cover leak some oil .Heater core just done . have had the timing belt replaced once but don't remember when . One water pump replaced . Other than that that's all I can think of . Second owner bought it when it was 3 years old

Have always used the red coolant ! Should I pursue the old recall on the head gaskets and try and get Toyota Canada to pay for it or could this open up a can of worms ( example I take it in the work gets done but the head gasket goes ). Should I follow the old adage " If it's not broken don't fix it ! "

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, including if you know people that have had this recall recently done
Thanks Very Much !

I've heard that Toyota ended their free fixes on this about 10 years ago, but wouldn't hurt to check with your local dealer.

BTW, wrong forum. :flipoff2: ('95 and older Toyotas)

Thank You !
Anyway you or someone else could post this for me in the appropriate forum so I don't have to rewrite the whole thing it would be greatly appreciated !

Moved :)

Was this vehicle originally sold in Canada or the US?

im going to guess that it was a Canadian market truck as the only recall that comes up with your truck is recall 514 for your steering relay rods and that recall was put out by toyota Canada

Okay are you saying if it was sold in Canada that the recall was not valid or that it did not have the gasket problem. I was under the impression that the recall was both in Canada and the U.S.
Thank You !

Being originally sold in Canada you would have to check with a Canadian dealer to see if the campaign is still open.

Sold in Canada Made in Japan Could you move this to the 90 series thread ?
Thank You

The whole 90 Series thread was moved to this forum with an expiring redirect from that forum.

I ran the vin on tis and that's all that came up, you should check with a dealer in Canada as they may have more info than I do.

The relay rod campaign comes up because that one is a safety recall. The head gasket campaign was basically an extended good-will coverage. Those are not always open-ended or the same in all markets.

so it was more of a lsc than an ssc

Okay I did get the steering rod notice but also never got it done . My life was upside down for quite a few years and I'm playing catch up now !

If your search did not show anything up for my VIN number does that mean that they never had a SSB or recall for the head gaskets in Canada ?

you would have to check with a Canadian dealer as im in the us market and may not have the ability to see info specific to Canadian market

As the parts shaman said, your post belongs here in the mini-truck forum, not the 90-series forum. Welcome to our little slice of MUD. As your moderator I will be by with peanuts in a bit.
