Anyone out there replace a E Brake cable on a Xcab SR5 my cabke snapped at the handle end.
Just spent a short time tracing the path under the truck it appears to be routed through sections of the frame.
How difficult is it to remove and replace any tips would be appreciated.

Also is the Fore Runner E Brake the same cable as the SR5 Xcab truck.

I have replaced several e-brake cables. It is not supposed to pass through the frame. It starts inside the handle, goes through the firewall where it turns down via a pulley in a little cast housing, then goes across the top of the tranny, over to the passenger side of the frame. Then it terminates in a bell crank that hangs from the horsecollar crossmember.

To get the piece out of the handle, crawl under the dash, reach up on top of the handle right behind the bracket where it bolts to the dash, you will find a couple of little lever/catch thingys, push them both and then you can push the handle down (towards the firewall) more so that the end is exposed on the other side of the firewall. Unbolt the cast piece where the pulley is, you can detach the cable from the end of the handle. It sounds complicated and seems hard, but after you get it done, you will think "huh, that was easier than I thought it would be".

Xtra cabs are LWB, 4Runners (not "Fore Runner") are SWB, so the cables are not the same length. Your best bet is to call onur (beno) or Sam with your VIN to get the correct cable, there are several lengths.

You need to takes pictures of the operation, post them here, and we can include in the FAQ.

Thanks for the feed back guys.
I have the handle and bracket removed since the handle came right out when the cable end snapped off on a E-brake application.
I could not figure out how to get the handle back in till I pulled the whole bracket out and saw it has two Pawls that need to be lifted to insert the handle shaft.
Posted this question a couple of weeks ago but nobody had a reply to my question but now I know.
I will take some pics and add to this post for others who inquire.

My bad for the typo on 4Runner
