Paging all 80s Toyota PU experts... Going to look at a 1 owner single cab '85 today. Seems like a survivor, but I don't know anything about what to look for on these things except for the obvious stuff. Any tips? What's a good example worth?

4WD vs 2WD.
Carburator vs. EFI.
Manual vs. auto.
Rust, rust, rust. Underneath, wheel wheels, drip rails. See if you can look under the carpet/mats.
Color of fluids: Brake, engine oil, radiator.
Engine leaks. Front main, dripping from bellhousing (rear main, or tranny input), rocker arm cover.
Transmission/TC leaks.

Nope you are not a tall fella.

Thanks for the response! It is 4x4, EFI and Manual. SR5

I am tall, but this will be a bum around my property truck and something to tinker with.

First thing to do is sit in it and slide the seat back. That alone could kill it for you. I'm sorta tall but have long (!) legs. I don't fit in a Regular Cab.

I'll add to Pappy's list -
- Rust around windshield
- The beds on these trucks rust first and fast. Don't let that be a deal killer... or you'll likely never find one ;). You could repair the current bed, buy a (gulp) fiberglass bed, search Craigslist for a decent replacement, build a flat bed...

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys, but someone beat me to it and it has already sold.
