so the 72 is a light duty vehicle ...
nice diggin there Rosco.

Seems it mainly inhabits far east Asia and Central America.

Im guessing they gave it its 72 designation to differentiate it from the LJ70 with the older body shape and 2LT
Im also guessing that this is a bare bones model while the more affluent countries got the KZJ7" models.

Do both of those Cruisers in the "Youtube" video have the 3L diesel?

In that body shape they only had the 3L or 1KZ TE and Im assuming those regions didnt get the 1KZ TE.

I was under the impression ( perhaps incorrectly) that neither of those powerplants
were overly desirable. Isn't the 1KZ-TE the slightly more attractive cousin to the 2L-TE.?

You do realize thats about 99.99% of all threads on the internet.

The 1KZ TE is one of the biggest selling 4cyl diesels in Australia and its descendants the 1KD FTV and 2KD FTV is also extremely popular. They blow a head now and again but its not something that has deterred owners and the resale value is excellant.
I dont think they share any components or design traits with any of the L engines.
They do share a few parts with the 1HZ,but they are not a 4cyl 1HZ as someone tried to tell me.

The 3L is also quite reliable and also a huge seller in oz.
In fact all the L engines were reliable until Toyota decided they needed to turbo charge them to keep up with Nissan and Mitusbishi.
The link I posted of one for sale shows quite high klms .

we could get into the KZ good / bad debate ...
i know i will never own the KZTE version .

My brothers company car (90 series prado) blew a head gasket at 240000kms. When he left the company and handed the car in,he had me scouring the classifieds for one for himself(he was 2500klms north). I couldnt find one in his price range without 350000klms ,so he got the V6 gasser.
Such is the dedication to this engine and model.

I am not sure "blew a head gasket and dedication to this engine" should be used in the same sentence. Is that not like shooting yourself in the foot and then declaring how much you love that pistol. :D
I am not sure the above example is going to change Wayne's opinion.:)

Only in the South.....an all-purpose restaurant.:D
Feed your Cruiser and yourself with this new recipe. :)
you get used to it.:hillbilly:

The 1KZ-T/1KZ-TE are essentially a shorter version of the 1PZ and IHZ.

I've got the non-electronic version in my KZJ70 and I have a Surf half-cut with the electronic version waiting for a purpose.

Had a chance this weekend to spend time around some real "classics." :)

Hello,

A couple things.

I like to read about Cruisers. You have an interesting sense of humour.

This thread is about Cruisers and includes a good laugh (which is always welcome in my books.) It is hard to do better than that.

Just my opinion.

Thanks.....I realize the thread has a tendency to wander away from the "Cruiser" theme from time to time and I need to learn to focus. :D

If they wander too far off the beaten path, mods have been known to shift them into chat:meh:
