So you say it is a NO GO?
It depends on price, how much you can do yourself and your expectations. In Australia it would be worth about the cost of the parts value with the rest going to scrap metal. . The gutters would put me off putting big $$$ into it. Get a cab off a current model and turn it into a ute

Asking 18 K USD, I believe I can get it for 16 K. People are asking 23 K for a regular BJ75, 30 K for a good one, 32 K for a BJ70 with turbo kit. Here in Argentina, a sub 20 K rig I believe it is a good buy.
Unluckily, Toyota doesn't import current models, in fact, the few 70 series seen in Argentina, have been imported by particulars, armed forces or mining and oil & gas companies back in the days. Everyone now uses Hilux's.

The LSD is most likely non functioning by now and they were never all that good to begin with. I think one wheel only got about 16% of the torque. It couldn't even push the vehicle off a jack with the other side off the ground.

I would be using a Hilux also. I was thinking the troopy was worth about $4-5k tops, but Im thinking my local prices.

So I pulled the trigger on this one. After talking to a few workshops I am ready to take on the body work. I am still waiting for acceptance on my offer, fingers crossed.

One thing I noticed is this truck doesn't have a front swaybar, it has al the fittings but no sway bar nor links. But I have a 1996 HZJ75 that I will put to work on a farm of mine, it won't drive on road, just a people hauler inside the farm. I was wondering if the swaybar from de HZJ75 could eventually go in the BJ75. Are the bars the same on each model?

Look at the sway bar mounts on the axle, the one I robbed from a BJ70 had different mounts than the one on the 75. Therefore I had to purchase the proper mounts/clamps but still used the bar from the 70
Actually since you are going from a 75 to a 75 then probably not a problem unless these mounts/clamps were changed in 1990

Just checked the diagrams.
Swaybar is the same for both models: 48811-60100
Chasis bracket same for both: 48825-60020
C Bracket (differential housing bracket) is different: BJ 48823-27010, HZJ 48823-60030
Hardware has different par numbers, but I am guessing lengthwise they all should be the same?

Hey guys, I bought the truck. Don't have it yet, waiting for all paperwork to be done.
Good thing is I sourced lots of OEM spares here in Argentina. Seals, bearings knuckel rebuild kit, filters, hoses etc. Other stuff I bought from partsouq and megazip. I believe with everything I got, I will give a fresh mid life (600.000 Km) refresh!
The tachometer isn't working. DO you guys have any idea what can be the most probable issue? or parts number of prone to fail components? Engine was rebuilt a few years ago, maybe something was left disconnected? I what group can I find the diagrams for the parts needed?

Things I like about the truck:
1 owner from new.
all 4 rear fixed windows OEM
all glass is OEM
I like diesel and simplicity
Great overall condition taking into notice the age and the K's

Plan is to keep it as stock as possible, plus ARB bull bar and rear bumper (no wheel carrier). Will fix (or someone haha) everything that needs to be fixed regarding mechanics, and will fix rust and respray and every weatherstrip will be replaced . Will sure put some 33 KO2's on 16 inch wheels.

Any input/advice on what things to look at regarding engine, suspension, chassis, body etc, will be gladly taken into consideration.

Thanks in advance!

As soon as I have fresh pics, I will sure post some.

Cheers

All the best with your new baby mate!
I can only concur with your decision to keep it "as stock as possible"!
Enjoy the beginning resto/build!

I am having trouble finding a radiator reserve tank, part no. 16470-58040
What alternatives do you guys recommend? Maybe something from another model?
Cheers!

So I finally picked up the troopy yesterday. Cloudy and cold day, so good for temps.
It was a 450 km drive home, I took us 6 hours, Top speed, 90 k/h. Filled up with diesel (tank gauge not working), aired up 4 tires, and of we went. It was all in all a nice experience. I got to realize how fast we drive in Argentina on single lane roads, a little bit scary indeed. No issue at all with the truck. Bad brakes (at those speeds it didn't matter at all), wobbly steering (pump has leaks because it is soaked in fluid in that area), toast suspension (OME on its way). No rev counter, no fuel counter, no water temp counter (it has an aftermarket gauge it seems to work), no oil pressure counter (it has an aftermarket gauge it seems to work).
Passing big trucks was a hell of a deal, they stayed in my rear view mirror for like 20 minutes or so! HAHAHAH.
We got home, with 0 issues, really happy with the outcome and the purchase. Spare parts are already stacking up, so sooner than later, I will begin a full refresh, and a body and rust repair and re spray.
Here I post some pics of the trip, hope you enjoy them!
Cheers!

40 and 70 series prices there are insane. But so will the resale so it evens out.

New hilux prices seem like a steal at the dolar blue rate. I haven't been to an actual dealership when visiting so no idea if they even remotely honor a msrp.
