There's really no way to "restore to original". You can restore it and keep it stock but there's no duplicating what took place at the factory. If the truck has never been restored and it's not just beat to hell, I would consider leaving it "as is" and just replace/repair the mechanicals as needed. If it's a rust bucket, that's another story. I have three 83's on the website right now so you may want to take a peek. Two are restorations, one is pretty much original.

kinda depends where its condition currently lies and if its diy or outsourced work:

- if its too rusty -and you are passing metal work to someone else- you arent likely to get a big ROI.
at that point it might be a better candidate for project rig and diy/learn as you go.

- if its pretty much all there and just needs easy paint and interior refresh like Whitey says: those last model years will have some cache down the road and you can enjoy it while your investment grows.

its a Landcruiser so likely mechanicals are already very solid given its an 83. imho it really depends on the body / rust and what you are doing vs having someone else do.

I am extremely hardheaded. Against the advice i sought I plan on making the purchase, unless of course hell freezes over. First thing that happens is it gets smaller shoes, the leaf springs move back under the axles, and the parking break issue is corrected. No rock crawling for me. dirt roads and small hills will do.

If you are extremely hard headed you need a 40 for therapy.

The 40 will be much thougher then you, in letting you finish an eventually planned total restoration and your wallet.

Restoring that 83 will eat up your wallet in a hurry. You may end up with a $50K Land Cruiser but you'll have way more in it by the time you're done, if it's done right.

Still worth it.

nah- rear cargo floors have already been cut out- replaced with what looks to be wood?

rear sill already chpped out and replaced. sunroof cut in. door bottoms look shot. most corners looking like rust just around the corner. cant imagine dash is untouched. id say its a bit too far from orig. to warrant going back.

buy it- build it- break it- fix it- gettin it.

I must admit I am having second thoughts. I make the 7 hour drive to physically inspect it late this week. The tub probably needs replacing. At best it needs several thousand in repairs to the tub alone. The doors all need work. The top needs replacing. Bumpers, tire carrier, mirrors, running boards, badging, paint, the frame shows indications of a couple hard blows, the driveline needs correcting, the suspension...... Just the things I see in the photos. There is a lot to do. Not a lot to choose from unfortunately
