1983 40 Back to Life

Hi guys,
I'm hoping to get this 83 back on the road as it would've been when sold new. This 40 belonged to my good friend, John, who sadly passed away about 4 years ago now. His daughter had hoped that one day it could go back on the road, but she eventually came to realize she would probably never get the project going so she passed it along to me. The body is in great shape, but it needs a lot of other work. At some point someone decided to put a 3FE in it and I'm wanting to get this back to specs so that it can be legal in California as well as anywhere else it would go. I do have a donor 2F that I'm working on, but it was de-smogged at some point so it is missing smog equipment. I do have some of it, but I'm not really sure what all I have or I'm going to need. Someone also at some point put a 5 speed in this and made modifications to the transmission cover. I'm going to keep the 5 speed in there since it seems to have been done nicely. I'll post some pics of what I have. I also have a bunch of extra parts for this that if I don't use I'll sell. But, not until I'm completely done getting it back on the road.

hopefully they kept the A/C rad and related still in the rig
battery mount may be a hard find if you don't have it
the H55 has a 60 top on it, finding a 40 top will put it in the correct place

3FE and H55 is a nice upgrade. No way to pass CA smog with it? If you get frustrated, feel free to pass her along to me. No smog here in IA.

If the 3FE runs in there and the fuel injection is functioning I would leave it. Can you register it in a free state state like Montana?

Looks to be a NAS '83. I had one for many years: they are great rigs. I put an H55 in mine as well. Fantastic score.

It sure looks like all the smog components are there. As mentioned, I’d keep it the way it is and get yourself an emissions manual. That is pretty much a dream setup.

There's a specific rad for this? What would I be looking for to make sure it's correct?

Actually, the title for this thing is for South Dakota. I'm just no comfortable having cars registered all of the over the place...lol.
