Quick question on a salvage title like that.
Is it a salvage title because it is non operating? or because of wreck/ damage ect?

My understanding is that a Salvage Title means the insurance company opted out of fixing/restoring a vehicle to road-worthiness that was either in a wreck, stolen/stripped, or damaged by acts of nature (fire/flood/quake).

A recent 1979 FJ40 I purchased does not have locking hubs, was this an option in 1979? I thought all FJ40s had lock/unlock hubs?

1 of the 1979's I owned in years past did not have hubs, just drive plates. Not all of them came with hubs.

Unless you're planning on a CARB compliant swap (Erod, etc...) a pre-smog FJ40 is way easier in CA (or anyplace with similar emissions regulations).
