1979 BJ40 - Engine Revs, gears can be selected, but car wont move

HI All

I was driving along a motorway at 80kph on Friday when the car stopped accelerating... it just revved and nothing more. I pulled over, stopped the car, put it in 1st gear... the same thing. The engine revved, but no momentum. Same in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Reverse.

Tried in 2H and 2L and the same story...

One person said the clutch, another the master cylinder, another the gearbox...

Any Ideas?

[Living in the Past]

Without pushing the clutch in can you shift the transmission while the engine is running? Engine running and transmission in gear can you switch between high and low in the T case? Last can you lock the hubs and put it in 4WD does it move?

Hi Living in the past... I will have a look at those things tomorrow. The car is in a yard for the weekend as I had to get a tow. thanks
