Just finished reading your thread...what a journey you have been down. I love the project and your attention to detail is superb!
E is the man. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

He definitely takes the “not taking the body off the frame” to a whole new level. I’ve never seen someone replace a 3/4 tub one panel at a time. Dedicated for sure and it paid off.

Wait, you’re Ian?

I’m Ian.

Hey thanks I really appreciate that. Always glad to hear people getting something out of what I’ve posted. It’s been a long road! I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Haha. For sure! I never expected to go that far. It’s just that the more I dug…Well, you know.

I am nearing that point on my project. The rabbit hole that I know is there scares me. I have new rear quarters from Real Steel and a bunch of small patches to start with.
Be careful. Sometimes it’s best not to know what’s behind that next panel. For me, once I saw the rust, there was no way I could put it back together without fixing. I’m glad I did but man oh man!

Weatherstripping and hardware on the rear doors. All fits together pretty good. I can see a little daylight in a few spots along the top so I might need to stuff a little weatherstripping up there, but overall… The way I had this thing cut apart… I am pleased.

(Second photo is before weatherstripping. There isn’t that much daylight!)

This is the weatherstripping adhesive I used. It worked really well. Used it like contact cement. A thin layer on both surfaces. Let it dry to tacky and then stick it together. Almost an instant bond which is good and bad… Couple areas weren’t quite on there perfect and then couldn’t move them.

On to the front doors. First one was a major pain in the ass. Took me a long time to figure out how to put the felt in that fixed track inside the door. Ended up using a combination of Windex, a long screwdriver, and some socket extensions… Gouged up the felt a little bit..and my paint.. but I got it in place. Combination of prying and beating it in with a hammer…

Then the door innards… Couldn’t figure out for the life of me how that goes together. I took it apart over two years ago quickly, and didn’t really pay much attention. Found an excellent write up up on mud about how to get it back together. That was invaluable. The first door took me about five hours… The second one about 45 minutes. Definitely a learning experience.

Thanks @hindsight for a great tutorial. Saved me.

I got frustrated and forgot to take pictures of the process.

Awesome result from when you first posted! That truck deserves some new tires and wheels.

Haha. Yeah I’m going to try to save a little money now but it’s definitely on the list. I wish I knew what I know now when I bought those tires a few years ago. Definitely would’ve gone skinny 33s…

I know not really done. Feeling pretty good today though.
Congratulations! You are an inspiration! Hopefully I'll make time to replace my window felts and weathersripping before this time next year.

Time for you and the family to enjoy it for a while.

Pro-tip: Your cruiser and the fall foliage make the perfect backdrop for family pics, and those pics make a great Christmas Card. Hopefully you can get a few pics when your oldest is home from college over Thanksgiving.

That is an excellent idea!
