I've talked about letting this truck go for a few years now. Got ramped up on doing a SOA v-8 to this one after seeing Whitey's at Rubithon 2004. Built a 350 4 bolt main for it and acquired all the accesories, then had second thoughts. I only drive the truck two or three times a year for a couple of reasons. First, the longbed 64 is such a reliable go-anywhere daily driver, its just hard to get out of it. Second, the H motor is a dawg. 18mpg isn't even good enough to lure me into it for any length of time.
So here are the specs. RHD, used SOR engine [have an extra long block] H41 with 4 speed case. Oversized drum brakes, semi-float rear axle. Fresh 4 core radiator and rebuild fuel injection pump. Alpine stereo. Custom $2000 stakebed with removable, reversable rear step. Dual tanks.
The bad. THe truck was originally set up for expedition with a walk-thru cabover camper. The roof was thrown away and the back of the cab cut open. A previous owner acquired the back of another cab to return it to stock and cut down an FJ40 roof to replace the top. The frame was shortened to accomodate an aftermarket bed, which I ditched in favor of the stakebed I had built for it back in 2002. When the PO imported the truck in the early 90s, he chose not to deal with the DOT paperwork and titled the truck as an FJ40.
From choice, I'd like not to lose my shirt on this, but I really should let this go and move on with my downsizing. I've got $14k into it between what I paid and what I invested in upgrades. Now that these trucks are becoming more available, I imagine it might not be possible to recoup all of that. I think that I'm being realistic at 11k, but would be willing to entertain a well-reasoned offer.
I will try to take pics on Monday.
