Costa Rican man scammer

This thread has certainly taken on a life of its own. What was the original reason for the post. Oh ya Land Cruisers for sale! Anyone I'm those sorts of vehicles?

Well then you def don't want to see how the Costa Rican man scammer thread progressed.

Wow, I am off of the forum for a day and I miss everything. When did we go from insulting individuals to insulting entire countries? Is there still a Cruiser for sale somewhere? :D

LMAO

LMAO...despite all the bashing and insulting, this forum actually makes me LOL...I would have to say this is the most snarky forum I've been on in my life!:D

Instead of "snarky" .....(critical, cutting, testy)
Perhaps "omniscient" ..... (having total knowledge, knowing everything) would be more appropriate. :D

i am thinking a combination of the both is more accurate of this forum.
very knowledgeable but can be mean, critical buggers to deal with.

I like that old, grumpy, keyboard bullies:p:D

.....and then you have contributors like me that are a ray of sunshine regardless of the subject manner. Must be my Southern upbringing. :D

the good life is bubbling over in your personality

you can be our ambassador to the south (America)

I have been to CR for six months maybe 6 times. I have been to Colombia maybe 50 times over 4 years.

The highest per capita income in central and south america is actually Chile which is a beautiful country with levels of infrastructure similar to Italy and Spain.

She is correct I am certain that per capita income in CR is higher than Colombia. But per capita is the average.

Colombia has more affluent locals obviously with a cities such as Bogota and Medellin. I invite all US citizens to travel there and be amazed by the general misperception we have. Go stay at the W hotel in Bogota. Or choose from many new hotels in Medellin. Bogota is a city of 8 million people with high rises and local and international industries.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country and has wisely positioned and marketed itself for tourism.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I am trying to express to the landcruiser community that not all FJ's are used to haul coffee around in the mountains. Some have lived their lives taking affluent locals to their ranches or spend time in their time tucked away in parking garages of luxury residential condos.

I strongly believe that if we are selling a central american or south america vehicle (granted I have yet to do it) we have to sell the country too.

Who in the US wants to buy a broken down coffee hauler?

well, you have stated that you want to buy vehicles and do high-end refurbishments to them.
it will be interesting to see what the results are, full pic disclosure would be practical and useful to those that are interested in purchasing.

at this point, Asdae has not found a shop that does that kind of quality of work. IF and when i visit with her, that will be one of the points i want to cover with her.

even in Canada, most people that go to body shops are looking for "pretty" "cheap" and "fast" fix for their old cars. since that is what the body shops are used to it can get hard to find someone / shop that is willing to go the extra mile ... even if the money is there to do it right.

i am sure in the small towns of central/south America it can be a tough challenge.

BTW, your posts are informative and polite but your "Who wants to buy a broken down coffee hauler" comment is unnecessary and detracts from your points.

considering you are very new to this importing business, maybe take a step back and relax.

Medellin

Exclusive Poblado neighborhood within outskirts of Medellin. Plenty of residential condo towers full of local affluent Colombians.

99% owned by Colombians (prices of condos from $100k to $500K).

I saw 3 FJ's for sale parked in the parking garages of these style condos.

One owner was a pilot.

If I can't change the false US misperception of Colombia I can't sell a Colombian imported vehicle.

@ Crushers.

I think he was referring to his selection of possible candidates.

That said, the negative connotation of "coffee hauler" as associated with the Medellin area, as far as an average American might see it, the description may be left out and not used to sell the area.

Doubt it'd bother most with a little bit if intelligence, but that doesn't describe the vast majority of centric America.

If I can't change the false US misperception of Colombia I can't sell a Colombian imported vehicle.

You, sir, have a better chance at curing cancer than changing any perception of Americans, but in THIS crowd that appreciate the vehicles you're describing, there's little reason to try to sell the area or change the perception, because its irrelevant.

I don't think it'd be a selling point worthy of describing, running across the stage at Barrett-Jackson or similar though.

The broken down coffee hauler comment applies to both CR and Colombia. The vehicles were actually used for that in both countries. Sorry no offense meant to Asdae.

I don't intend this to be a me vs her. She made the comment about no affluence in Colombia which unfortunately is not true. I personally have had very positive experiences in both countries.

I defer to her and her experience as I have not sent one yet. Agreed. There is plenty of pie for all of us.

I sympathize with her experiences and I believe her insights to be valuable.

I spent a day with an independent shop owner who has restored plenty of these vehicles. I feel that this may be the way to go. It is indeed hard to find that perfect restoration/ finish medium though.

In fairness to a body man if the client pays X for shiny and cheap then the client gets shiny and cheap.

I am in discussions with the body man in order to express to him that I want a high quality (within reason) restoration.

On the other end we need to educate buyers that this does not come cheap. Just like you all wisely tell people don't buy the $10k USA FJ with a 'little rust easy to fix'. you are better off paying $15k to $20k for a finished (although some enjoy to rebuild themselves).

I won't know what level of restoration I can reach with this body man in Colombia. I am sending him right now to look at my yellow one which to me looks to be a very nice restored one owner. Not a $50k vehicle but maybe a $25k to $30k vehicle.

Honestly I don't even see a problem with maybe buying a clean one and doing a quick and nice paint job and coming in cheaper.

I just dont see at this point how that can be done. Once you start to work on one you have to end up working on it all the way which brings you back to a higher priced product.

I think this is the BEST forum to have these discussions.

Costa Rica is beautiful! And so is Colombia!

FYI i am not a mechanical or body expert only a car enthusiast.
