1975 Toyota FJ 55 2F Anaheim Hills, California | DC Motors

Note: I have NO AFFILIATION with these listings. I am not looking for a 55 – I have 2 already. I am doing some unscientific research about just how “rare” these pigs are, how often they come to market and what they are selling for. I am sharing the listings for other members’ general interest, in this part of the forum. I am not posting the parts pigs that I find. I will post my conclusions in the FJ55 Iron Pig Preservation Society forum after I have been at this for long enough to have some.

For being all original, it is exceptionally clean. No engine bay or undercarriage pics. What is tied to the rear passenger grab handle?
Not too much to nitpick really, except would definitely like to see more pics.
44,000 original miles, rain channel chrome looks complete, everything looks to be there. Possible dent behind rear vent/reflector. The roof paint looks to be a tad faded (so what), a little fadage on the front bumper paint (again, so what).
Not showroom floor immaculate, but original and complete. Based on the pics, I give it an 8.5. Does that make it worth $75G? Not in my opinion, but what does that matter? This rig gets to look forward to a lot of sitting around. Nobody in their right mind would buy this thing and use it for its intended purpose. It will probably get bought by some collector and get parked in a warehouse with all kinds of other cars, with the intention of flipping it at some future time.

I couldn't agree more. I don't see the asking price, but what's out there to compare it to? I personally believe you could cut the price in half and it'd still sit on the market.

I was looking a flipping some C-10 pickups awhile back and started out looking at what the pickups where listed for on the internet just like you are doing now. What I found is somewhat of an un-orchestrated dance between guys listing trucks for bat $hit crazy prices and siting on them for an untold amount of time driving the perceived price up. Then I starting looking at what the pickups that actually “sold” where going for and found a huge gap making flipping C-10 pickups quite a bit less profitable then it would appear to the casual observer.

I believe that 55’s fall into their own category but the practice of chumming the water seems just as prevalent with them.

I agree that the the analysis is handicapped by not knowing the actual selling price (with a few exceptions). I do not plan to contact each of the sellers to determine the actual sales price. At best, I will only be able to get a rough idea of how many 55s are put up for sale, the asking price and general condition over a period of time. I'm not sure how long I will do this or whether I will be able to conclude anything worthwhile. I may also just get bored and stop. Stay tuned.

Yeah, not much to compare it to. And how many people with money like that to fork out for collector vehicles are actually looking at FJ 55's? Probably not many. An FJ 55 is not a 69 Dodge Charger, or a 66 GTO, or a 68-1/2 Fastback Cobra Jet Mustang - in other words they're not really the stuff of car collector dreams.

Some interesting sales there for sure. The one that sold for 2G is ROUGH! I'd say he overpaid! My rating for that one is 1.

The one that sold for 5500 has been a mystery to me. It's like 3 different pigs in the pics. Not sure how to rate that.

The one that did not sell for $8500, I can see why. You don't just paint over dents and think you're getting away with something. I give it about a 3.

The $14.9G cruiser is very similar to the blue one for sale for $75G. Very clean, all original. Probably an overall fair price.
I give it an 7. Would love to have THAT cruiser for daily driving!

The $23K Cruiser is hard to make a rating on because of the lack of exterior pics. The guy was quite proud of the interior, which did look nice.

For $75k you get a ugly a$$ glove box, rattle canned bumpers, a gross shift knob, no gas pedal rubber, no dome light lens but don't worry, the PO took the time to cut some speakers into the doors for you! Its hard to say if that's a dent on the rear quarter or just the reflection of a large round light. The exterior is pretty amazing other than that. If the time was taken to fix the stupid little things I mentioned and assuming the mechanicals and engine bay check out its definitely a $25-30k vehicle. However, with the gas pedal cover and the shift knob condition I'd be inclined not to believe the 44k mileage to be correct.

it's a dent
