1975 2F Piggy with Weber 38 carb and DUI dizzy...need some insight please:)

Back to a lack of mechanical fun...:( New gaskets on and same problem (dies as soon as I give it any gas).

Put my NEW vacuum gauge on the carb. Started with the outlet that feeds the dizzy. At idle it reads 12psi. No vacuum (0 psi) at the dizzy at idle either. Moving to the intake manifold plug to see what the reading is there.

It looks like you have bypassed you heater element here jdog. I am refering to the hose marked with the red arrow in this pic. That should run to your heater box on the firewall. And thin out from the heater box to where I assume you are running the marked line now.

That it is. In part because the heater element wasn't present:/ Also because I have a brand new AC/Heating unit to install (after I get everything running of course) and was going to bypass the stock system entirely. Is this an issue? The previous piece that was on the firewall leaked at the junction (inner valve was toast I think).

Now this has me scratching my head. Here, you have a line running back to your fuel return. I don't think you need that and can plug both ends. you see, what I think is happening is that you are pumping half the fuel coming from pump back into the tank from the regulator. The red circled blocked off port looks ok. Also, I don't like the idea of that fuel regulator just hanging out there in space on those rubber hoses like that.

It's nice having a functional vacuum gauge now:) And thanks for the quick responses rsb! Live from the garage with the laptop right now makes life easier.

no, no real issue here, just thought you should know.

Don't fret. Bad photo that doesn't show the bracket I fabbed to hold that sucker in place. It is definitely NOT floating in air. It is locked in pretty damned solid.

As for the regulator...my fuel pressure was so high beforehand that it was shooting back up out of the carburetor before. Like a friggin' geyser. Per the Weber instructions of recommended/required fuel pressure, I installed this puppy and that stopped the Old Faithful event. Good/bad?

15-16 psi at this plug port when I'm at idle.

that is not manifold vac...that lil thing is called the gas filter...and it has a cloth packing inside....unless somebody cleared it out...it will read alil low always

here's a good site for vac readings....for troubleshooting:

Thanks for the vacuum gauge breakdown. My biggest issue is I can't check against half those since I can't get it above idle without choking out:/ I really don't like feeling this stupid.

You'll get it. Wow! did you see what JohnnyC just posted. That is awesome.

I did see that...printed it...and have it now proudly displayed on my cork board for reference in the garage! One of these days I'll be the smart guy on a thread and be able to give back like that:)

As for now...still the villiage idiot. I think even my internet connection is riding the short bus with me right now.
