Please see my add. The 40 was purchased without a title but is badged with matching numbers. I purchased a Vin tag and title from Classic Cruisers of Salida and have the vehical registered and titled with that vin tag. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Steve. 1971 FJ40 Toyota LandCruiser Original Paint/Motor Running and Driving

That's too bad. Most states won't allow the vin tag on the door jam and the frame not to match :/

If you have trouble selling the truck as is without a good title for the frame VIN and you need to get a good title try www.getnewtitle.com
it will probably cost about $1200 and the whole process takes about 2 months but you end up with a title for your titleless vehicle. They check all the FBI/crime databases to make sure the car is not stolen as well.

Yeah thats why I hadnt switched the tags yet. Figured I would give that choice to the new owner. Maybe ill just start going through the bond process here. Its much much cheaper.

I am no expert, and especially on Colorado title, but whomever you bought it from need only request a duplicate title. That gets signed over to you. To check to see if a vehicle is stolen is quite simple and free, go to the national insurance, they maintain a free database of all stolen vehicles. I am a little concerned for you at this point though. By purchasing a title and vin numbers etc and attempting to replace, you may be considered an accessory to grand theft auto. As I understand, that is how states pursue vehicle fraud etc (from water damage, or salvage etc). You might not be charged, and also I don't know who or why someone would steal a mint green FJ, but again, not my field of expertise. You might want to drop the vehicle off with the police or something. Remember there was no mandatory vin system in place when this vehicle would have been imported. Also, not sure what you were going to do with number etched in frame etc. GLW, well whatever you decide

I have already had the VIN run and it is not reported stolen or register for a significant time. It was purchased from a family with a deceased owner. The truck has been a driveway plow for over 15 years.

Well I suppose the vehicle just may have never been titled. I know some states won't issue a title for vehicles before a certain date. I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to have to deal with all the bureaucratic stuff. I am afraid I am not being much help. It looks like it's got great bones, and someone who knows this stuff will probably be a lot more help. I wish I could buy it. GLWS

I would buy this truck and tow it to Georgia and register it no problem. (They register vehicles without titles using a bill of sale when they are a certain age.) Of course I would be doing this if I was not still in the Philippines. (I will be in the market for a 40 just like this one in 14 months.)

Not to beat the horse, but I would just spend the few hundred dollars at Broadway Title and Bob's your uncle. They would can send a clear title to you and if you want you could use it to register the truck in your state without shenanigans.

Moving vins around is never the recommended solution.

GLWS. This truck is priced very well.

i agree - this truck is reasonably priced with a clear title. unfortunately broadway title is now www.getnewtitle.com also known as mainely titles inc. Their prices have gone up by like 400% over the last 6 years. Instead of a couple hundred bucks it ends up being around $1200 all said and done.

if this is the case - I may be real interested in this one - I live in GA and am looking for a project for my Son and I. I really want a BJ42 - but seems like finding a leprechaun is easier ;-)

Excited to get it. I'm a sucker for original paint rigs. I wasn't even in the market but finding an original paint spring green 40 at a reasonable price is not something you see every day. Plan will be to keep it original and just enjoy it.
@Hugh Heifer - thank you for trading PMs with me and when you are back state side feel free to swing by and check it out.

Congratulations. Looks like quite a vehicle. Once you get it all sorted out, if it's not too much trouble could you PM me with a few of the details. I may be in a similar situation, and couldn't figure out if Uncle Bob's Broadway Title or MainlyGetnew titles was the way to go. Any guidance would be appreciated. I'm in Ga often, hope to see you out and enjoying your new rig
