Please see my add. The 40 was purchased without a title but is badged with matching numbers. I purchased a Vin tag and title from Classic Cruisers of Salida and have the vehical registered and titled with that vin tag. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Steve. 1971 FJ40 Toyota LandCruiser Original Paint/Motor Running and Driving

did he die of a gunshot? looks like a bullet hole in the door VIN

is it Spring or Seafoam Green?

congrats Upperback :)

I have already had the VIN run and it is not reported stolen or register for a significant time. It was purchased from a family with a deceased owner. The truck has been a driveway plow for over 15 years.

Well he definitely didn't drown, since, according to the pic, the factory leaves what appears to be a drainage hole in the frame (remarkably over the same numbers in the vin as the gunshot on door vin. plate). Might be to let the blood drain out. The color is minty, and there should be a 45 out there somewhere in the same color.

Oh my....I did not notice the frame VIN......that does seem like a rather odd coincidence, maybe it was once owned by the shooter from the grassy knoll....

Landpimp, conspiracy theories are for nuts and wormhole dwellers. Much better to stick with what is obviously true. I think what we have here is one of the famous Toyota Bring Your 40 of Sake to Work designs. Reports of these are rampant, but an actual, numbers matching version is extremely rare. I am surprised seller didn't charge an extra premium on this one. There are a number of identifying characteristics on these babies: Due to the source material being primarily Japanese Jackalope, as the vehicles age, they mostly yellow, rather than rust or grey (see all pics for reference). This is highly desirable because rather than replace parts with sheet metal etc, one can merely wipe with any citrus covered cloth(the technique developed from the elimination of scurvy from long naval expeditions). There are a host of other small identifiers which you hinted at, the infamous ballistic test for all id plates, the blind rivets challenge and of course the emperor's expanding title only visible when viewed through the holes of the id badge. Legend has it that at the end of "Bring your 40 of Saki to Work Day" a festive pin the vin on the forty game ended the days ceremonies. This might explain the door tag vin plates, that or they may have been just too hammered to open the hood. I had only heard of these in legend, it is astounding to see such a perfect example. That's all I know, if you want to find out more, I would check with Classic Cruisers as mentioned earlier in this thread. They seem to sell titles vins, and without a functioning website. Fortunately they continue the tradition of these interestingly designed vehicles by linking to images and threads to classic cruiser bikes from their google page. Hope that was helpful, my experience is these things, usually disappear rather quickly, usually you can't find any further responses. I would guess collectors like to keep these rare beasts to themselves. Do let me know if you spot another one, lately, I have run across a ton of them.

Wanted to close out this thread and update anyone interested.
First - thank you @rckhound for a great truck. This was exactly the kind of rig I was looking for.
Got the truck in Atlanta last Friday, had a police officer come out yesterday to due their inspection, and got the 40 registered and tagged today under its original vin tags so it's now totally legal in GA!!! No issues. So she's back on the road :steer:
Obviously every state is completely different and this is how it works in Georgia. My 69 doesn't have a title either and I went through the same process with that one as well A few years ago.
No plan to get a title right now as it's not required for any vehicle older than an 83 in Georgia.
Plan is to keep it completely original and just work on a few things it needs gradually. I picked up a beige 77 a couple of months ago that I will be listing for sale soon and focusing my time and money on this one.
Mike

I am glad everything worked out! Miss driving it every day but has let me focus on the 45-full speed ahead. Hope you enjoy it! Steve.
