Well its my fault for being lazy. I have been working on this project. However i have only posted on the facebook group. As i update here i will delete over there and try to post more here.
this stuff happened around feb 3 this year way before rona hit us.
Not sure if this is where the fun starts. If its even going to be fun. But getting the tub out was tedious. Especially a one man job.
Good thing the rotisserie was already here with me. The frame overall looks pretty good. Has a lot of gunk. First thing will be to strip the frame and get it blasted.
Good thing i had this work horse built a while back.
getting the frame ready to be cleaned and blasted.
mind you this is a one man job....
On february 4, 2020. “Copied from facebook group”
today i pressured washed the frame to get all the dirt off. Noticed this shock rubbing on the steering linkage.
Im going to assume its not normal.
Im new at this, is there any reason PO chose this kind of shock, vs a normal?
Is this a load adjusting shock? was told by some members it was the thing in the 80’s
Going oem on this one, and will get tossed....
As i recover my facebook posts, you will see more stuff, sorry for overload

Took rear axle today. Of course some bolts gave me trouble.
I had to cut two bolts to remove driver shackle. This looks aftermarket. But not sure. What is the best way to see if i have aftermarket springs other than marks. Because i cant find any. I rather keep oem height. Ill probably refinish these springs.
Spring Height is approx 20 cm or 4 1/8 inches.
Shackles look homemade lol.
initially wanted to save these leaf springs, as of today sep 14 new oneshave been bought......
On february 15, 2020 this year, sold the first fj40 i ever had. Figured i would never get to it. Went to a good guy! Not sure if he Is on here.....
on february 17 “Copied from facebook”
Some progress. Got the frame blasted and now painted with rust encapsulator. It was not perfectly blasted.
When i took the front pass leaf spring it came apart. Looks like an extra blade was added.
Just going slow at this build..
needless to say as of today sep14 those leafs will be recycled....
On february 25 “Copied from facebook”
Little bit of work today. Need to flip the frame to work on some things and to get into crevices with paint.
Made mounts for rotisserie mount. Well front is not finished..
The fronts were recycled from another project...

I learned this today to remove broken bolts. On the fj40
First weld a washer to protect the chassis nut.
Then weld a nut on the broken bolt.
Not always easy. But i have recovered 6 broken bolts.
Hopefully it helps anyone.
looks like a lot of work. But it works, next step to tap em
On march 20 “Copied from facebook”
All the broken bolts removed, tapped every thread. Painted almost every nook and cranny with rust encapsulator.
Waiting for it to dry and then start painting it black. Then start transplanting stuff in it. Still long ways to go.
Frame is a 1974 fj40.... thanks for watching....
did my best with sponges and sticks to get into every hole

Brought my parts vehicle home. It runs. 72k miles
Put it in the garage today to take apart and reclaim salvageable parts
Now this car is not what it is. Its a freaking rust bucket...
And more pics over here
i will keep the wooden dash....
On april 21. “ copied from facebook”. Lol. Sorry, gotta keep updating
Pig on a lipstick. Ill let pics do the talking.
Ive never seen so much tin used on a car....
Plus a wooden chasis
this was a bad investment. I tought i could salvage a lot more. But anyways. What can i say. I was duped....
More pics from april 21
More rust and rust everywhere...
more and more tin to hide the rust, lol
jdm Tin for sale soon

So many questions and many fails. But little by little my drivetrain will be coming out. Man so many badly rusted body parts.
This 1980 drivetrain going into a 1974 frame....
Tried unmounting the tire. To cheap to pay and drive... lol failed.
Piping used? Wtf.... lol. Ill keep on taking apart
On may 6 “ copied from facebook post”
How do you make something dissapear? Sawzall.
Getting rid of the unnecessary rusted crap. Very little can be salvaged.
Wood had no termites. Amazing. The leaf springs were just up in the air.
Most likely someone stored something inside and made it rust. The way it has rusted does not make sense
More pics from may 6
No sure how much of this can be used, and we will do the best to save most of the stuff that I can’t.
This last picture is funny because the leaf springs are holding the rig, they are so heavily rusted
On may 7. “ Copied from facebook”
Im doing axle swap. To a 1974 fj40.
Using the axles from an 81. Noticed the mount point for the 81 is in the plate not the axle.
Also want to fix the brake plate on the rear, parts have been ordered as of sept 14 and on stand by
will be keeping the old axle just in case I need any extra parts.
that royal mass has already been clean.
On july 27. “ Copied from facebook”
In the process of taking out the drivetrain put of this 80 fj40 to put in an 74 fj40.
The spot for the power steering pump has this weird contraption. Any idea? Not seen before. Turned out to be a pump for possibly a snow plower...
Have to figure out if the crossmember of the 3 speed would be of any use since i do not see the bolt holes for the crossmember of the 4 speed on my frame....
Boy was this car badly rusted. Worst money ever spent. Cant do anything now....
after careful review, I think this car was a snow plower and rusted out with time.....
On july 29 “Copied fron facebook”
Engine is out. Finally. Now to get it cleaned up. And check clutch. Engine did run on the rusted body.
Gotta figure how to mount the 4 speed on the 74 frame.
took out the main firewall intact. May use all the components on my 74 if possible. Including wiring once fixed....
On august 9 “ copied from facebook”
Is it worth the hassle trying to get this arm off? Or id be better off cutting it and buying a new one. Lol. As you can see the puller bent. As of sept 14 it is still attached. Lol
All you see on floor is rust and frame parts from this rusted out parts car that was supposed to be rebuildable. Lol.
Most of the truck is headed for the scrap yard....
On august 15 “copied from facebook“
Well how about that parts 47703-60020 and 47704-60020 aka dust shields are discontinued. Lol. Anyways...
Spent couple of hours taking apart one side of the front axle. Will probably see if i get locking hubs, since it had these plates that lock the axle all time.
They were glued with rubber gasket, very hard to get off. Spent solid hour prying them.
Over all the front axle looks in good shape minus the dust shields...
As of sept 14 i may have leads on the front dust shields, i want to keep em...
On september 1st “ Copied from facebook”
Hi, wil be rebuilding this axle very soon. Seen the project wrongway video. And know everything now.
as of sep 14 bought a complete kit, or the most complete kit that you would trust. I saw many out there. Some missing bearings, some look chinese. Some you have to piece together.
went with Cruiser Teq online. ordered and received, still in box tho...
love my greasy pumpkin
ordered tools to check for lashing and the marker cream
