Well we're back from the trip and mostly unpacked. Last night was a really nice sleep until I woke up to pee and this little *sshole decided a couple miles of run was in order. At night, in a strange forest. Drove the roads in the area until he heard us and hopped right in when I stopped.

My other dog is truck trained and would probably die before she left it.

Beside that, it was a successful test. I need to work on some things and will post that as I do.

A strange forest at night is the best time to let your dog run. He'll be eventually come back, and won't hurt anybody. I let Sam run off leash anytime we're hiking and haven't seen people for a little while. I know he's not going to hurt anyone and the worst thing that anyone else is going to do is give me dirty looks or ask me to leave wherever I am. I can handle dirty looks lol

The last couple days it was back to dog rescue with Mavis playing a key part. Did you know you can fit 13 small square strawbales in an FJ40 and still be able to drive it? As long as you don't mind being totally blind on the passenger side and only use 2nd and 3d, it can be done. 45 minutes driving like that.

These sweet babies got to sleep in clean dry bedding with protection against the environment for the first time in who knows how long.

Daisy is a lover. Almost a liquid dog in how she melts into you

This little catahoula whatever mix is a pistol and loves people.

Horrible wonderful day and hopefully 66 little lives can be saved.

Clean up is going to be interesting 🤔

A pig can easily and safely haul 4 bales (probably alot more) and retain use of all 3 gears.

I once hauled like 120 total of 50 and 30 cal empty ammo cans in my 40. Yea it was full but I could shift gears just fine even the transfer case.
The issue with shifting is that the bale crammed against the steering wheel makes the three on the tree a two speed. You just can't practically reach reverse or first.

But if you plan right, you don't need those

The current scumbags we are rescuing from are starting to push back on losing their dogs. Needless to say we got some of the worst ones out of there today.

Meet Jessie Belle, who was to be euthanized tomorrow. Freedom ride, baby!

She has a cyst on her ribcage and is extremely underweight. Resizing her collar almost broke me. 😭 An adult full sized dog should never have a neck that small.

We drove an hour away to a place that was run by a little old lady with a multi-million dollar facility as a hobby.

Jessie was withdrawn and labeled as dog aggressive. Once we arrived at the Dog Mahal, she immediately went over and started meeting other dogs and socializing. I think it was the s***ty environment she was in.

Momma dog will sleep good tonight. On an actual dog bed and not in her urine and feces.

If you're detecting a theme, I'm driving the wheels off this rig doing dog transport. Drove a couple hours to Mt. Juliet to take an elderly Chihuahua to a place he can be comfortable. As an aside, there is tech. I bought and installed the hose for the tranny to return swapped gear oil between the trans and transfer case. Unfortunately, I have oil building up in the transfer case now and my transmission is losing oil. I might go back to fill plugs and just checking periodically.

Pics of the senior dog because I mentioned it.

Also, tomorrow is another 4 hour round trip to rescue a very senior Great Dane

Drove the two hours to Mayfield Kentucky to rescue Gladys. Gladys was pretty old, her owners decided to leave her behind without food or water when they baled from the house they were renting. The landlord discovered her some unspecified time after they failed to pay rent.

Instead of taking her to her fosters house, I drove straight to the vet. There we discovered advanced heartworm in addition to the malnutrition. We ended up taking her to Mikaela's Mutt Motel, where they put her up in their personal dog's room with soft music and a softer bed. She ate a little, but couldn't keep it down. At 0328 the next morning, she thumped her tail twice and let out a deep breath and passed away.

For the entire trip, she was a sweet gentle lady and refused to lie down, preferring to watch the world go by and soaking my pants, steering wheel and gear shifter with dog slobber. I'm glad I was able to spend that time with her.

What a sweet girl and I'm very glad she felt love and compassion again with the time she had left. I have no idea how anyone could abandon a pet of any kind.

No new tech, but we are renewing our efforts to find an acreage, which is a trick in Middle Tennessee.

All best wishes for your search. Having acreage is a mixed blessing, but worth it in the long run.

Have I mentioned earlier how much I love this rig? Clarksville got flooded today and Mikaela's Mutt Motel had to be evacuated. All the volunteers got to haul dogs and kennels 11 miles away to safety.

This is Mjolnir, the pup I got to transport

One of the other volunteers got a pic of Mavis, doing work in the rain.
