Bled the clutch….yikes at that fluid. Before/after

Also got the correct 4-speed FD plate as my ‘64 originally had a 3-speed, but went to a 4-speed at some point. Thanks @shipmag !!

Also put some of the City Racer LEDs in that I picked up from a local MUD-friend. @Scott11cruiser

These are the lights

Pay no attention to the overspray on the tires…it is mostly gone now. Refinished the wheels and hubs as well and changed to M8-1.25 stainless nuts on the hubs.

Paint for the wheels was:
Rustoleum Farm and Implement Gray Primer 280146
Rustoleum Farm and Implement Massey Ferguson Gray 280133

Hubs were
Rustoleum Farm and Implement Gloss Black 280123
Rustoleum Metallic Warm Gold 286524

Installed a tach. Larger than I thought but not in the way of the other gauges. Easy install…one wire to switches power, one to ground, one to the negative on ignition coil, and one to the headlight on wire at the light switch.

Found another green light indicator…and swapped my red indicators for green for the blinkers. Not a simple plug and play as the green indicators are slightly different (shallower) so I had to get scientific (electrical tape and ran a wire from ballast to ground) to get one of the blinkers to stay grounded. Also, put one of the red indicators in the FD 4wd light…after getting a working FD switch! I also successfully remounted the speedo cable in about a minute somehow…took it out to gain access to behind the gauges.

Fluid changes. Changed both diffs, transmission, transfer case and oil.

80w90 in diffs, transmission and TC. 10w40 in the oil. Front diff looked like it has some water in it at some point maybe? Oil…black. No idea when the fluids were last changed. Swapped out for the 10mm hex magnetic drain plugs. The plugs that came out had the typical gray matter, but nothing of concern.

Torque specs I used (use at your own risk)
Diffs drain and fill plugs 36 ft lbs
Transmission and TC drain and fill plugs 27 ft lbs
Oil drain plug 20 ft lbs

A few reels of draining…check out that oil.

Based on some feedback from Mud, Went with Rustoleum Massey Ferguson Gray. At first it looked a little brown, but settled down over night and seems more gray. Wire wheeled all rust off the back and front, cleaned up, primered and painted. Have only done the spare. Will be doing the other wheels within the next week or two.

Late now, but decks of playing cards from the dollar store slip right in, easy masking for tires.
Nice truck, great progress!

An even more brilliant solution i had never seen till last night: sorry for those non-instagrammers…..

Got a set of front floor carpet from @Fj80oregon

Fits pretty good. I used some Velcro I had to stick it to the tub in strategically planned out spots (yeah right)…we will see how the wind treats it.

Going to order some floor mats (probably Weathertech trim to fit) and that will help keep the carpet down. Before anyone says anything about moisture….it stays inside and I’ll keep moisture in mind if I get it out and wet.

Looks good glad they fit!

For the 1964, the Denso 3037 (W16PR-U) are the correct size spark plugs. Torqued to 11 ft lbs and gapped to .031. The old ones were Autolite 85 gapped to .055. I don’t notice any difference…which just proves these FJ40s will run off of duct tape and chewing gum.

Floor mats. Doesn’t seem like a lot of or any aftermarket options for FJ40s and floor mats. I went to Tractor Supply and almost bought a horse stall mat, but it was so thick and I didn’t care for it as an option after seeing it.

I bought the Weathertech trim to fit mats. I bought the fronts with the full length 2nd row and then had to buy the cargo area separate.
The rear was easy. 41” wide gets you the exact cut on the Weathertech and there is a line there to cut by as well. I didn’t trim the length bc I wanted it hanging over the ‘2nd row’ mat.

I ordered the front mats from Tractor Supply bc the ship to store was $20 cheaper than Amazon or Weathertech. I ordered the rear from ACE for the same reason…and I had a coupon.

Radiator is in my future. I also have a leak from something up front from coolant…maybe the water pump. Does the front crankshaft seal have coolant behind it?
