Hello all I have a 1988 HJ 61 with the 12HT engine and a440 trans. Occasionally the kickdown cable will stick and won’t shift gears. I’ll get out of the vehicle reach under the hood and the cable is stuck so I manually stuff the cable back down into the liner and then the vehicle will drive correctly again until the next time it does it. Roughly once I have every four times I drive the vehicle. I have to pull over and readjust that cable. Is there a spring somewhere that is supposed to return the cable to a point of rest or give it tension to pull it back into the sheath? I’m guessing there’s something on the transmission side that gives the cable tension. I don’t want to assume anything so maybe one of you may have already experienced this and found a solution. Definitely it drives my family nuts when I have to pull over and adjust that luckily it only takes me a couple of seconds and we’re back on our way. I want to find a solution before it becomes a permanent problem that I cannot fix on the side of the road. Thanks for your insight.
