Doing some interweb browsing while I wait for boats from the antipodes.

Found a brand called Kinugawa selling a chra Kinugawa Turbo CHRA TOYOTA CT26 1HD 12HT 4L Land Cruiser 17201-17010 Stock Spec | eBay - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/253403983714

Assuming that's better quality than the sketchy 135 dollar chinese ones you see on there, but I don't know that.

They also sell the full meal deal. Would be nice to just replace the whole thing. Kinugawa Upgrade Turbocharger TOYOTA 12HT Land Cruiser 4L CT26 w/ Garrett 60-1 | eBay - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/263468529233

I've read they're similar to the Mamba setups. Same owner or something like that.

Gturbo might be the best but it's also twice the money, and if I'm not doing anything silly with my boost, it seems a bit overkill.
This I really want to hear more about for my 2H... so I'll continue lurking!

Why not just use a volvo turbo? I know this guy who did that... I also know this guy who lives in a place where there are a lot of Volvos in the junk yards...
Volvo... you've been there too long man. Your head is growing corners. :flipoff2:

If I was putting the turbo on a 3b, sure, but the math is already done on this one.

That's what that little t after 12h stands for ;)

I'll probably be back to factory boost levels after all this anyways. Whopping 8psi or whatever it is.

@seapotato, maybe you should work some overtime and give these guys a ring?

Yeah I've heard of them.

I'm not hung up on the price, in the grand scheme here I don't really care about an extra 500 bucks on a truck I've had 7 years and spent peanuts on.

I just object to things that are 50% more expensive without any explanation.

If it's warranted, great, but every single one of these companies has the same blurb.
"We design and build our own xyz from the highest quality components" etc.

Then you spend the extra money because one sounds better and you find it's made with parts from someone else. :meh:

I'm cheap and used junkyard turbo on my truck. But when my dad needed to replace one in an hdj81 I ordered him a new chra from melett in the uk. seemed like good quality oem spec replacement. not that expensive either comparatively

I’m going to bite the bullet on a wink turbo here soon. Take one for the team so to speak. Will have some info soon..

I actually just got a reply from him1200 euros shipped, so about 1780cad shipped plus whatever the gubment wants when it gets here.

Kinda feel like that setup gonna be overkill if I don't plan on 15+ psi...like the higher test gturbos.

I found an old thread mentioning that brand, when I went to the website it was all dealer login... maybe I was on the wrong site.

Friend of mine bought a Melett CHRA (from ebay uk) for his HDJ81 a few years ago now. He's been running 18psi or so since install and it's been problem free. They're definitely a great OEM option. 12HT has a smaller compressor than the 1HDT CT26, so you'll have to be sure you get the right one. Or find a 1HDT compressor housing and give yourself a mild upgrade. Haha, the old thread I found was actually you talking about that turbo.

I'll probably turn the boost back up to the 13 or 14 I had it at once I'm reasonably sure things aren't going to fly apart.

I don't really want to spend a pile of extra money on something capable of 20 psi.

A new chra would probably do me.

. Who knows if I end up putting this in the green truck one day maybe I'll feel like going full hotrod and crank the grandmother out of it, till then, a bit over stick is good enough.

That said, I and a few other LJ7x owners have been running this brand of Chinese CHRA at 20psi for years with no issues either. At this price, it's hard to go wrong. This one is for the 1HDT, but I saw they have them for other CT26 engines like the 13BT etc too. (is 13BT CHRA same as 12HT?) I'm not sure if they're the same or not?

I saw one listed that claimed to be for 12ht for $135
Hard to believe anything that cheap would be decent, but turbos still have the magic to them so they can charge more.

I rebuilt a turbo for my old 3b. Had it all apart, swapped bushings wheels and everything. There was a lot of talk about balancing them or risking certain doom , I didn't. It was fine for years.

I did have an intercooler aka; grenaded turbo debris filter tho

That’s slightly easier on the wallet than my plan.
It's sort of absurd.

Makes you wonder if the others are insanely overpriced or what.

For a bit extra I'd do the melett chra if I can find one. Guess I need to dig back into the turbo sizes world so I know which ct26 I have.

yeah its been at least 5 years now. think i got the company info from their ebay sales then contacted them directly or something. in our case went with a supra chra with the slightly bigger compressor wheel and iirc it was oceancable on the island that was kind enough to do the machining on the stock cover housing to make it work. and it has worked well so far. maybe a tad bit laggy especially with the way my father drives it for economy. anyways not sure what melett have for 12ht just thought i'd mention that option. or maybe i'd be tempted by one of the upgraded mamba or kinugawa offerings. would need to read up on it some more.

Yeah it's hard to know.

I think the mamba and kingawa are similar quality, and the trouble is all you find for reviews is how they work. My Honda has X horsepower now blah blah, I'm more interested in whether they're going to last any length of time.
There's the odd story of compressors losing a fin after 20k miles which is a tad concerning.

I'm tempted by the wink ones, just to buy a unit and be done with it, but there's f all for info.

Makes you wonder if he's just a dude in his garage assembling them or what?

I'm also having a bitch of a time finding the specs of the stock 12ht wheels so I can inquire about a replacement with someone like melett...
